Dear Luis,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Luis,
Hope this email finds you well. I am writing to offer to include a famous dish from my country in the event of celebration popular food from all over the world.
Firstly, I would like to mention that I am a international student and i ate different kind of food in my life, but I have a favourite dish that is milk pudding. This is very famous in my country. As a event organizer, you should definitely consider this in your event.
Furthermore, this dish is made with rice, milk, and sugar. Primarily, we have to boil rice with milk, after having a solid texture of both, we have to put sugar in it. It take almost one hour to get final result.
I believe the milk pudding shows the tradition and culture of India. It is prepared at every festival in the India. By introducing this dish we can remind to the other international students their culture.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Your sincerely,
Poonam

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task effectively. You offered to make a dish, described it, and provided a clear rationale for its inclusion. The tone is appropriate for a letter to an event organiser. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the description of the cooking process is a bit simplistic, and the explanation of why it should be included could be more persuasive. To reach a higher band, try to expand on the cultural significance or the sensory appeal of the dish to better engage the reader.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical structure with clear paragraphing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Furthermore', and 'I believe' to connect your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical. For example, the transition between describing the ingredients and the cooking process could be smoother. Additionally, some referencing is slightly awkward, such as 'remind to the other international students their culture', which affects the clarity of the message. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task. You use topic-specific terms like 'event organizer', 'tradition', and 'culture'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'event of celebration popular food' (should be 'event celebrating popular food') and 'remind to the other international students their culture' (should be 'remind other international students of their culture'). While these errors do not impede communication, they limit your score. Using more precise adjectives and collocations would help elevate your lexical range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'a international student' (an international), 'i ate' (I have eaten), and 'It take' (It takes). There are also minor punctuation and article errors throughout the text. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. While you attempt complex sentences, the errors within them suggest that your control over more sophisticated structures is still developing. Focus on accuracy in your basic sentence construction first.
