Dear Luis,
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Luis,
I am writing this letter to inform you that being a member of international students club we our organising the international food event where people can bring their traditional food from their country.
It is being informed to everyone that you can make a famous food from your country and they have to explain what it is famous for so that people can understand their tradition. I am from India our food is rich in culture and diversity because our ancestors had special dietary restrictions.
Also students can explain well about their culture by offering the food to everyone in the college. More students and staff member can reach out to them.
To add in this we are also giving offer to every faculty member to join this event as they can also prepare the dishes and explain their food choices.
Looking forward to the organising event.
Your sincerely

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses all three bullet points, but the development is weak. While you mention you are from India and that the food is rich in culture, you fail to actually name or describe a specific dish, which was a core requirement of the prompt. Furthermore, the tone is inconsistent; you seem to be writing an announcement for the club rather than a personal letter to Luis offering your participation. To improve, ensure you focus on the specific instructions—naming a dish (e.g., Biryani or Dosa) and providing a vivid description of its ingredients or preparation would have significantly improved the task response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The letter is divided into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression is disjointed. The transition between your offer to participate and the general information about the event is abrupt. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical, such as the repetitive use of 'also' to start sentences. The referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the shift from 'you' to 'I' creates confusion regarding who is responsible for the food preparation. More varied linking words would help the flow of ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the range required for higher bands. You use basic terms like 'famous food' and 'good' repeatedly. There are some awkward collocations, such as 'giving offer to every faculty member' instead of 'inviting every faculty member'. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of precise vocabulary to describe food or cultural aspects limits your score. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more specific descriptive adjectives and topic-related vocabulary, such as 'culinary tradition', 'authentic', or 'signature dish'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are several grammatical errors that impact the clarity of your writing. For example, 'being a member of international students club we our organising' contains errors in article usage and pronoun agreement. The sentence 'It is being informed to everyone' is passive and unnatural in this context. You rely mostly on simple sentence structures, and the attempts at more complex sentences often contain errors in tense or word order. Improving your control over basic sentence construction and subject-verb agreement will be essential for achieving a higher score.
