Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Luis,

I am writing this letter to u regarding the occasion that our organization is going to celebrate the famous food around the globe.

As you know that,I am member of this club from two years and I never had get any chance to participate in this festival. I am from India and want to suggest a dish from my home country. This so called dish is known as butter chicken.

Everyone knows that India is rich in spices and mixes and the taste of dishes really different than other nations. Butter chicken is very well known dish there and now internationally too. Most of the people from other nations want to eat it on special occasions. Actually,Its a gravy with chicken mixed in it by adding some crème to give better taste.

In my opinion,This dish should be included in the program to make people feel happy after eating.I can make you promise that everyone will be satisfied with this food as well as licked their fingers. It will enhance the sales of our event and will be a great profit for our group.

I hope you will like my idea.Let me know as soon as possible if u want to consider with it, So that I can start preparations for it.

Yours sincerely,

Abc

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You offered to make a dish, described it as a gravy-based chicken meal with cream, and explained its appeal for the event. The tone is appropriate for a letter to an event organiser. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the description of the dish could be more vivid, and the explanation of why it should be included relies on general statements rather than specific cultural or culinary insights. To reach a higher band, ensure your ideas are more fully extended and supported with more descriptive language.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a distinct purpose. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'As you know', 'Actually', and 'In my opinion' to connect your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical, and some transitions feel slightly abrupt. While the progression of ideas is clear, the use of cohesive devices could be more varied and sophisticated to improve the overall flow of the text. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different sections of your letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message, such as 'internationally', 'preparations', and 'satisfied'. However, there are some informal choices and inaccuracies, such as the use of 'u' instead of 'you', 'so called' (which is often used to express doubt), and the phrase 'licked their fingers' which is slightly informal for this context. There are also minor errors in word choice, such as 'make you promise' instead of 'promise you'. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding informal abbreviations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'I am member of this club from two years' (should be 'have been a member for two years') and 'never had get any chance' (should be 'never had a chance'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. These errors occur frequently but do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. Increasing your control over verb tenses and prepositions will help improve your score.
