Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Luis,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing today to suggestions for the upcoming internantional food event.

I would greatly appriciate if we have well known dishes from my beautiful country, Italy. As it avaiable in all types of dielt such as vegan and non-vegetarian diet which is beneficial for the event because we have students who follow different meal types.

As everyone already knows it that pasta, pizza and spphageti's are the popluar food of Italy. It has raw and natural ingridents it helps to maintain good health. I know a friend who owns An Italian cusine in downtown and also offers catering services. I have been at his place many times and have a delicious taste.

Those dishes available in three diet options like vegetarian, plant-based and with meat. Additionaly, it does not cause any health issue so I believe it should be added in our food programme.

Let me know your thoughts and to discuss further we can schedule a call to figure out the best food for student food fare.

Yours faithfully,

Mario

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points of the task. You offered to provide a dish, described it, and explained its suitability for the event. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention that Italian food is popular, you do not specifically describe the preparation or unique qualities of the dish you are offering to make, instead speaking generally about Italian cuisine. To improve, ensure you focus on a specific dish rather than a category, and provide more detailed reasoning for its inclusion, such as its cultural significance or ease of serving at a large event.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter follows a logical structure with a clear opening and closing. Paragraphing is used to separate the different points of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your argument. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as the transition 'Additionaly, it does not cause any health issue'. Some sentences feel disconnected, and the flow between the description of the food and the suggestion of the catering friend could be smoother. Using a wider variety of linking words would improve the overall flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

There are several spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'internantional', 'appriciate', 'dielt', 'spphageti's', 'ingridents', and 'Additionaly'. These errors are frequent and occasionally distracting. While you attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'catering services', 'plant-based', and 'vegetarian', the range is somewhat limited and repetitive. To reach a higher band, you should focus on accuracy in spelling and try to incorporate more precise vocabulary related to food and event planning, rather than relying on basic descriptors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

Your writing shows a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the clarity of your message. Examples include 'I am writing today to suggestions' (should be 'to make suggestions'), 'As it avaiable' (missing verb 'is'), and 'spphageti's are' (incorrect pluralization). Additionally, there are issues with article usage and subject-verb agreement. While the meaning is generally clear despite these errors, the frequency of mistakes prevents the text from achieving a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and verb forms will significantly improve your accuracy.
