Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Luis,
Hope you find this letter well. I am reaching out to express my interest in the upcoming event of 'Food Festival', that is organizing by the International Students' club.
I am a very dedicated an enthusiastic member of this club. I have been arranged many events with this club. My recommendations are always spot on regarding the events. This time I am interested in introducing a very popular and delicious food of my country, the 'biryani'. This cuisine is not only mouthwatering but also worth looking due to its fascinating colors and aroma. It is famous not only in my country but also in many other countries. It is our traditional food and represents the culture of our country.
It would be great and amusing for me to introduce the authentic food of my country

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
You have addressed all three bullet points: offering to make a dish, describing it, and explaining its inclusion. However, the response is significantly under the 150-word minimum, which limits your ability to fully develop your ideas. For example, the description of the biryani is quite brief, and the explanation for its inclusion could be expanded with more detail about how it would enhance the event. Because the length requirement was not met, the development of your ideas is insufficient, which prevents a higher score in this criterion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The letter follows a logical sequence, moving from the introduction to the offer and description. However, the paragraphing is weak; the letter is essentially one large block of text, which makes it difficult to follow. There is a lack of varied cohesive devices to link your sentences smoothly. While the progression of ideas is clear, the mechanical nature of the transitions and the lack of proper paragraph structure indicate a need for better organization to improve the flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message, using words like 'dedicated', 'enthusiastic', 'mouthwatering', and 'authentic'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'that is organizing by' (should be 'which is being organized by') and 'I have been arranged' (should be 'I have arranged'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do show a limited control over more complex lexical items and grammatical structures.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
Your writing shows a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'Hope you find this letter well' (should be 'Hope you are well'), 'dedicated an enthusiastic' (should be 'dedicated and enthusiastic'), and 'I have been arranged' (passive voice error). These errors are noticeable and occur throughout the text. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of passive versus active voice, as these are currently affecting the accuracy of your sentences.
