Dear Luis,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Luis,
I hope you are doing great. I am writing to offer you one of the famous dish from my country, India, that you could add in the list of popular dishes all around the world.
Undoubtedly, Indian cuisine has its own identity in the world. I would suggest you to add saag and makki di roti from punjabi origin in the list. The saag is made of spinich and raagi and the roti i.e bread is made of corn flour. People definitely going to love its taste and presentaion.
I desperately insisted you to include this dish in our club event because people from diverse communities are well aware of punjabi vegetarian and non-vegetarian curries, but few of them are particularly know about this dish. I have strong feeling that everyone could enjoy it with their families and friends and this unique taste will add an extra dish from punjab in their future events.
I hope you will consider my offer and give me an opportunity to taste my favourite food to my fellow friends. If you need any further information, feel free to contact me.
Yours faithfully,
Kamal

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You offered to make a dish, provided a description of 'saag and makki di roti', and explained why it should be included in the event. The tone is appropriate for a letter to an event organiser. To improve, ensure that your explanations are slightly more detailed; for example, you could elaborate more on the cultural significance of the dish to better justify its inclusion. Overall, the purpose of the letter is clear and the response is well-focused on the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organised with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Undoubtedly' and 'If you need any further information', which help the flow of ideas. However, the transition between sentences could be smoother in some places. For instance, the connection between the description of the dish and the reason for its inclusion could be improved with better linking words. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different points of your letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'cuisine', 'diverse communities', and 'presentation'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and spelling, such as 'spinich' (spinach), 'raagi' (likely referring to sarson/mustard greens), and 'punjabi origin' (should be capitalized). Additionally, phrases like 'I desperately insisted you' are slightly unnatural in this context. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and ensure correct spelling of key terms. The vocabulary used is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, but lacks the sophistication required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'one of the famous dish' (should be 'dishes'), 'People definitely going to love' (missing auxiliary verb 'are'), and 'few of them are particularly know' (should be 'know'). There are also issues with article usage and verb tense consistency. While these errors do not prevent communication, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall accuracy of the writing. Increasing your control over basic sentence construction and subject-verb agreement will help improve your score.
