Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: offering to make a dish, describing it, and explaining its importance. The tone is appropriate for a letter to an event organiser. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the description of the dish is quite basic, relying on a list of ingredients rather than a more vivid sensory description. Additionally, the explanation of why it should be included is slightly repetitive, focusing heavily on its popularity. To reach a higher band, try to provide more specific details about the cultural significance or the unique preparation method of the dish to better engage the reader.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organised into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific part of the prompt. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'The dish is' and 'In addition' (implied). However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of linking words is limited. For example, the transition between describing the ingredients and the fragrance could be smoother. Referencing is generally clear, but the repetition of 'The dish' at the start of several sentences makes the writing feel a bit formulaic. Using a wider variety of cohesive devices would improve the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to communicate your ideas effectively. You use some relevant terms like 'fragrance', 'mouth-watering', and 'vital role'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'gives a delicious taste than other dishes' (should be 'tastes more delicious than') and 'in these event' (should be 'in this event'). Some phrasing is also slightly unnatural, such as 'named as Hyderabadi Biryani'. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise adjectives and collocations would help you achieve a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues like 'the dish is play a vital role' (should be 'plays') and 'every guests' (should be 'every guest'). Additionally, there are errors with articles and prepositions, such as 'in Indian marriage' (should be 'at Indian weddings'). While these errors do not impede overall communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
