Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly offer to make a dish, describe it as a vegetarian curry with a creamy texture, and explain its inclusion by highlighting the lack of Indian representation at the event. The tone is appropriate for a letter to an event organiser. However, the development of ideas is slightly hindered by repetitive phrasing and some lack of clarity in the explanation of why the dish should be included. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are more concisely linked to the purpose of the event.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your message. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'furthermore', and 'Finally' to structure the response. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural. For instance, the transition 'Because of this' at the start of a sentence is used awkwardly. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the final paragraph where the connection between the list of countries and the request to bring a dish could be smoother. Improving the variety and flow of your linking words would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'vegetarian', 'creamy texture', and 'opportunity'. However, there are several spelling errors ('vegitarian', 'cury', 'flavoures', 'gratefull', 'possiblo') and some awkward word choices, such as 'add glory to this event' or 'hail from India' used in a slightly unnatural context. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they do indicate a need for more careful proofreading and a wider range of precise, natural collocations to move into the higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('I wants to join', 'dish belongs to', 'this dish contain'), missing articles, and punctuation errors. For example, 'I did not noticed' should be 'I did not notice'. These errors are noticeable and occur throughout the response. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tense usage, as these errors currently distract from the clarity of your writing.
