Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The candidate has addressed all parts of the task prompt, although there is a slight confusion in the first paragraph where the writer asks Luis to make the dish instead of offering to make it themselves ("I want to you to make one dish"). Despite this mix-up regarding who is cooking, the letter successfully describes biryani as a popular non-vegetarian dish and explains its inclusion based on the theme of representing culture and rich flavours. The overall purpose of the letter is clear, and the bullet points are covered adequately. However, the misdirection regarding who is making the dish prevents the response from achieving a higher score in fully developing all parts of the task with complete precision.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter uses basic paragraphing, though the layout is slightly cramped with punctuation and spacing issues. Ideas are logically ordered following the bullet points: opening greeting and introduction, describing the dish, and explaining the reasoning behind the choice. However, the progression is sometimes hindered by missing punctuation, run-on sentences, and basic transitions. Cohesive devices are minimal, and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as shifting perspectives on who is preparing the food. While the overall arrangement is coherent enough to follow without difficulty, the lack of sophisticated cohesive devices and occasional mechanical linking place this criterion firmly at a band 6.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The candidate demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, attempting some less common and descriptive items such as "tempting cuisine," "ample of skills," "plethora of spices," and "aroma." However, there are notable word choice and collocation errors, such as "I want to you to make" (instead of ask you), "ample of skills" (instead of ample skill), and "Let me known" (instead of let me know). Spelling is generally accurate, but minor lexical inaccuracies and awkward phrasing occur throughout. The range is sufficient to convey the message clearly, but limitations in precision prevent it from reaching a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as "It has plethora of spices and flavours which increase the aroma..." However, grammatical control is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in punctuation (missing periods, inappropriate spacing around commas and periods) and missing articles, such as "organizing a event" instead of "an event," and "The famous non veg dish" functioning as a sentence fragment. Subject-verb agreement and preposition choices also show occasional flaws ("discuss something regarding that"). While these errors do not impede overall communication, they occur frequently enough to characterize a typical band 5.5 or 6.0 performance.
