Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Luis
Hope you are doing well. I'm writing to suggest the best dish, which can help us to win the hearts of guests in our event.
As we all are aware that we are going to celebrate an international popular food event soon, I would like to suggest one of the best and authentic spicy dish in entire India, especially from southern part of India which is "Chicken Biryani".
This is one the best and delicious spicy food everyone can like it. I hope this could become one of the best dish and we would need to provide extra soda and chicken curry in addition to the Chicken Biryani. I hope this would bring joy and satisfaction to every guests and members who attend this event. I got to know that, most of the the Indian people are attending this event, since most of them are attending, this could be the best option for us.
This dish would not only provide multiple health benefits but also satisfies everyone's taste and make all individuals feel joy and pleasure. When we add any type of side dessert it could be even more delicious and provide additional health benefits to the participants. It is one of the best super rich protein food and provides muscle growth and increases the energy levels. I hope this dish could bring the special attraction in our event.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The candidate successfully covers all bullet points required by the task prompt. You offer to make a popular dish from your country by stating, "I would like to suggest one of the best and authentic spicy dish... which is 'Chicken Biryani'". You describe the dish adequately, noting its spicy nature and association with the southern part of India. Furthermore, you explain why it should be included by mentioning that many Indian people are attending and that it will bring joy, satisfaction, and health benefits to the participants. The tone is appropriate for a letter to an event organiser named Luis, maintaining a friendly and helpful register throughout. Ideas are relevant and developed adequately, meeting all requirements of Band 6, though some explanations regarding health benefits are slightly repetitive.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear beginning and paragraph structure. The opening greeting "Dear Luis" is included, and the text is divided into logical paragraphs covering the introduction, description, and justification. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. For instance, transitional phrases like "As we all are aware that" and "I got to know that, most of the the Indian people are attending this event, since most of them are attending" feel repetitive and slightly clumsy. Referencing is generally clear, but the logical progression between sentences could be smoother. Paragraphing is present and separates the distinct ideas appropriately, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptors.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The candidate demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms such as "international popular food event", "delicious spicy food", and "super rich protein food". However, there are notable word choice and grammatical collocation errors, such as writing "one of the best and authentic spicy dish" (should be 'dishes') and "every guests" (should be 'every guest' or 'all guests'). Less common lexical items are attempted, but accuracy is inconsistent. Spelling is generally good, and vocabulary errors do not impede overall communication, placing the response securely in Band 6.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writing displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as "When we add any type of side dessert it could be even more delicious..." However, there are several grammatical errors and awkward phrasings throughout the text. Examples include "As we all are aware that we are going to celebrate..." (unnecessary 'that'), "one of the best and authentic spicy dish" (singular instead of plural), and "most of the the Indian people" (repeated article). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but subject-verb agreement and article usage slip occasionally, such as "every guests and members who attend". These errors rarely impede communication, reflecting a solid Band 6 performance.
