Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all three bullet points required by the prompt, though the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. You successfully offer to make a popular dish from your country, namely rice pudding, and explain that it is easy to make and universally liked by all age groups. You also attempt to explain why it should be included by mentioning that international members, particularly from the north, appreciate rice-based dishes. However, some arguments lack clear elaboration, such as the vague reference to the 'north part of the world.' Overall, the letter fulfils the basic communicative purpose and adopts a semi-formal tone appropriate for an International Students' club organiser, but it would benefit from more extended support for your ideas to reach a higher band level.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The letter exhibits a coherent overall arrangement with a clear beginning and ending, appropriately greeting Luis and signing off. Paragraphing is used to separate different points, such as the introduction, the description of the dish, and the reasons for its inclusion. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. For instance, the transition 'As, I am the member...' contains unnecessary punctuation and awkward phrasing, and the sentence structure in the final paragraph is incomplete ('I would like to offer you to add'). Referencing and logical progression between sentences occasionally falter, leading to a slightly disjointed reading experience. Transitional markers like 'Moreover' and 'In addition' are employed, but their usage does not always ensure smooth semantic flow between ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your lexical range is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message about the food event and the rice pudding recipe. You make successful attempts at using common and semi-formal vocabulary, such as 'international members,' 'suggestion,' and 'celebrate.' However, there are noticeable vocabulary and collocation errors that hinder precision, such as 'famous food item' instead of 'famous food item' or simply 'dish,' and 'mostly like by all ages of group' instead of 'liked by all age groups.' Additionally, spelling and phrasing errors like 'thr world' instead of 'the world' and 'famous food item like by all individuals' reflect a limited control of less common lexical items, placing your performance firmly in the Band 5.5 range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response displays a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentence forms. You demonstrate control over basic structures, such as 'I hope you are doing well' and 'I am writing to discuss with you.' However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'discuss with you about an event' (unnecessary preposition 'about'), 'As, I am the member... for last four years' (incorrect tense usage—should be 'have been'—and comma splice), and the incomplete sentence at the end of the fourth paragraph ('I would like to offer you to add'). Punctuation errors, such as missing commas and fragmented sentences, also occur. These errors occasionally cause slight difficulty for the reader, though communication is generally maintained.
