Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response attempts to address all parts of the prompt by offering to make a dish, describing it, and explaining why it should be included. However, the development of these ideas is severely limited and repetitive. The writer states their intention to make biryani and mentions that it is popular in Pakistan and healthy, but the explanation remains underdeveloped and lacks specific details about the dish itself. Furthermore, the opening contains heavy memorised formulaic language that is entirely irrelevant to a general letter task, which detracts from the communicative purpose. While the core requirements of the letter are touched upon, the lack of coherent expansion and the presence of irrelevant introductory templates pull the task achievement score down to a Band 4.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

Coherence and cohesion are major weaknesses in this response. The text is written as a single, extremely long run-on sentence separated only by comma splices rather than proper full stops or conjunctions. There is a complete lack of paragraphing to structure the different parts of the letter. Logical progression is heavily hindered because thoughts tumble into one another without clear markers of transition or logical sequencing. While the letter begins with the required greeting 'Dear Luis', the structural flow breaks down immediately afterwards. Cohesive devices are either missing or misused, resulting in an unorganised text that is difficult for the reader to follow. This aligns closely with the Band 4 descriptors.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is very basic, repetitive, and restricted to simple everyday words such as 'good', 'food', 'popular', and 'dish'. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'want make' instead of 'want to make' and 'unhygineic' which contains a spelling error. The writer attempts to use more advanced language at the very beginning with phrases like 'contemporary epoch', but these are completely inappropriate for the context of a friendly club letter and appear to be poorly memorised template fragments rather than genuine lexical control. Because the vocabulary is largely basic and repetitive with noticeable errors, it fits the Band 4 profile.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The grammatical range is extremely limited, consisting almost entirely of simple clauses strung together incorrectly with commas rather than periods or proper subordinating conjunctions. There are frequent and systematic errors in basic grammar, including missing auxiliary verbs ('I want make'), missing articles ('in country', 'in pakistan'), and persistent run-on sentence structures. Complex structures are absent, and the heavy reliance on comma splices means there are very few error-free sentences in the entire response. These frequent and disruptive grammatical inaccuracies impede overall readability, placing the writing firmly at Band 4.0.
