Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The candidate successfully covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You offer to make a popular dish from India, describe it as 'Bhaji pav', and explain why it should be included by highlighting its cultural value and health benefits. Although the ideas are somewhat simple and lack deep development, all parts of the task are adequately addressed. For example, you state, 'I would like to add this dish in your events so, people know about our culture.' The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a club member, although some parts are slightly abrupt. This performance fits the Band 6 descriptor well, as all parts of the task are addressed with relevant, though slightly under-developed, ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The letter shows an overall logical organization with an appropriate opening and sign-off. However, paragraphing is inconsistent and mechanical, with short, choppy paragraphs such as 'This dish is very famous...' and 'This dish name is...'. Cohesive devices are minimal and sometimes inaccurate, such as starting sentences with 'Because, this is very healthy dish.' Referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in pronoun usage. Despite these shortcomings, the progression of ideas is discernible, and the reader can follow the overall message without extreme difficulty. These features align closely with the Band 5 descriptors, as the organization lacks smooth progression and cohesive devices are inadequate.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The lexical resource used is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your basic ideas about food and culture. You attempt some less common vocabulary items like 'vital role', 'religeous', and 'advantages', but there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, such as 'witing' instead of writing, 'contry' instead of country, 'mass' instead of mash, and 'protine' instead of protein. These errors do not completely impede communication, but they cause some difficulty for the reader and show limited control over word formation. This performance corresponds to a Band 5 score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentence forms, such as conditional or causal structures like 'If some one have less time and they want to eat healthy then they can make this dish very easily.' However, there are frequent grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the letter, including missing articles, incorrect verb forms ('people are like to eat', 'do not taking too much time'), and sentence fragments ('In anticipation of your response.'). While communication is generally maintained, the high frequency of errors prevents the grammar from reaching a higher band. This is a clear Band 5 performance.
