Dear Luis,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear luis,
Hope you are doing great. I am so excited to hear that our club is going to organise a food event and i would like to add the dish which is famous in my country.
Here i would like to add Masala Dosa, that is popular South Indian crispy, golden crepe made from fermented rice and lentil batter, wrapped around a spiced potato filling. As winter is coming so people would like to eat some spicy food and i really would like to add this into the list. Moreover, it is way easier to make and ready to serve in just 10 minutes. It saves cooking time and people would get a new authentic indian food taste.
In addition, I already talked with the other club members and everyone would like to go with this option.
I Hope you like my suggestion and if you need anything regarding preparation and all, I am happy to help you !
Thanks,
Raaj

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response successfully covers all parts of the prompt in a natural and engaging manner appropriate for a general training letter. You clearly offer to make a popular dish by stating "i would like to add the dish which is famous in my country" and specifically naming "Masala Dosa". You provide a good description of the dish as a "crispy, golden crepe made from fermented rice and lentil batter, wrapped around a spiced potato filling." Furthermore, you explain why it should be included by mentioning that it fits the winter season ("As winter is coming so people would like to eat some spicy food"), is quick to prepare ("ready to serve in just 10 minutes"), and introduces an authentic taste. The tone is friendly and appropriate, and all bullet points are fully addressed, earning a solid band score.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter follows a clear logical organization from greeting to conclusion. Ideas flow reasonably well, starting with the announcement of the event, introducing the dish, explaining its benefits, mentioning peer agreement, and ending with a polite offer to help. You use appropriate cohesive devices and conjunctions such as "Moreover", "In addition", and "and" to link your ideas. Paragraphing is used adequately to separate the introduction, the main body describing the food and reasons, the collaborative confirmation, and the closing remarks. While referencing and linking are generally clear, some transitions feel slightly repetitive, but overall cohesion is well managed.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate to good range of vocabulary suitable for a food-related topic. You successfully incorporate descriptive adjectives and specific culinary terms such as "crispy, golden crepe", "fermented rice and lentil batter", "spiced potato filling", and "authentic indian food taste". There are a few minor vocabulary or collocation choices that could be refined, such as "add the dish which is famous" instead of "contribute a dish", and "talked with" instead of "spoke with". However, the vocabulary is varied enough to convey your meaning precisely without any hindrance to communication, easily satisfying the requirements for this band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
The writing contains a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as "As winter is coming so people would like to eat some spicy food and i really would like to add this into the list." You demonstrate good control over basic grammar and punctuation. However, there are a few minor grammatical inaccuracies and capitalization slips, such as lower-case "i" used as a pronoun (“i would like”, “i really”), the missing comma after the greeting ("Dear luis"), and minor run-on tendencies in sentences connected by coordinating conjunctions. Despite these occasional errors, the majority of sentences are clear and fully communicative, ensuring your grammar supports the message effectively.
