Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The candidate addresses all parts of the prompt, though the development is somewhat limited and repetitive. The letter opens by introducing the writer as a club member to Luis, and offers to make popular dishes from the home country such as 'jalebi, fafda, dhokla, thepla', and later mentions regional foods like 'litti choka, choole kulche, ghevar'. The purpose of including the food is briefly explained, noting that 'it shows about our culture'. However, the explanation lacks depth, and the persona shifts awkwardly at the end where the writer signs off as 'Charmy patel' despite introducing herself as 'Dipsa Patel' in the opening sentence. Furthermore, the instruction to describe a dish is slightly underdeveloped by listing too many items without detailing one specific dish thoroughly. Overall, the requirements of the task are met satisfactorily for a Band 5.5 to 6.0 level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The text displays a basic organizational structure with an appropriate opening and closing format. However, paragraphing is poorly handled, as the entire body of the letter is compressed into one massive block of text, which significantly impairs visual and logical progression. Cohesive devices are largely absent or repetitive, relying heavily on basic conjunctions like 'and'. There are also referencing issues, such as the pronoun shifts and the confusing name discrepancy between the introduction and the sign-off ('Dipsa Patel' versus 'Charmy patel'). While the progression of ideas is generally understandable, the lack of paragraph breaks and limited mechanical cohesion place this response firmly in the Band 5.0 range.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate to convey the basic message, featuring topic-specific words such as 'competition', 'celebration', and various traditional food names like 'dhokla', 'thepla', and 'ghevar'. However, there is a very limited range of lexical items, and frequent spelling and word-choice errors occur throughout the text, including 'abut' instead of 'about', 'promot' instead of 'promote', 'organition' instead of 'organization', and 'recommanded' instead of 'recommended'. These errors demonstrate a restricted lexical repertoire and frequent orthographic slips. Although meaning remains mostly clear despite the vocabulary limitations, the high frequency of basic lexical and spelling errors limits the score to Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The student uses a mix of simple sentence forms and attempted complex structures, but control over grammar and punctuation is weak. Punctuation is heavily neglected, demonstrated by lowercase letters at the beginnings of sentences and after full stops, such as 'club.i am', 'country.it', and 'this dishes'. There are also noticeable grammatical errors in subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'for making a popular dishes' and 'we have a opportunity for take a part'. Complex structures are frequently faulty, and the high frequency of punctuation and basic grammatical errors causes noticeable distraction for the reader, placing this criterion at a Band 5.0.
