Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Luis,

Myself Mirza Vilayath, I have been a member of International Student's club since 2025 and actively working for the organization. Regarding the upcoming event held at parker hall on 25th October 2026 where we are celebrating popular food event, I would suggest one of the famous dish from my country, India.

'The Biryani!' Its the famous cuzine in south part of India where I come from. Its a mix of rice and chicken. Where all the spices are added to the meat, along with curd. Next this batter is mixed with rice in layer form as carbs and protein together is's filling and very satisfying alongside very healthy.

Lastely, talking about the popularity, as I know is the most hot selling dish espically amoung the people from south asia. If we gonna add this cuzine in our event I am sure we can make a good revinew.

Hope you consider my request. Please do let me know if you need futher more detaild regarding this dish.

Your faithfully,

Mirza

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The candidate successfully covers all three bullet points of the prompt. First, Mirza offers to make a popular dish by suggesting 'one of the famous dish from my country, India'. Second, the dish is described adequately as 'a mix of rice and chicken' with spices, curd, and layered preparation. Third, the explanation for its inclusion is provided through its popularity and the potential to 'make a good revinew'. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and basic. The description of the dish and the rationale for its inclusion remain brief and lack deeper elaboration, which places this response comfortably in Band 6. The tone is appropriately semi-formal for a letter to an event organiser, fulfilling the functional purpose of a General Training task 1.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter exhibits a coherent overall arrangement, divided into logical paragraphs that handle opening, dish description, popularity, and closing. However, cohesive devices are sometimes faulty or mechanical. For instance, transitional phrases like 'Lastely' (misspelled) and 'Next this batter is mixed' create a somewhat disjointed flow. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as 'as I know is the most hot selling dish'. Paragraphing is present and used sufficiently to separate distinct ideas, but the overall progression of sentences within the body paragraphs feels slightly abrupt and choppy. These limitations align closely with the Band 6 descriptor, where cohesion can be faulty or mechanical and referencing not always clear.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'actively working', 'satisfying', and 'popularity'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'cuzine' instead of cuisine, 'espically' instead of especially, 'amoung' instead of among, and 'revinew' instead of revenue. Furthermore, phrases like 'hot selling dish' show weak collocation. While communication is not impeded and the meaning remains clear, these persistent errors and limited flexibility prevent the lexical score from reaching Band 7. The vocabulary is minimally sufficient to convey the intended message.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

Mirza attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'Regarding the upcoming event held at parker hall on 25th October 2026 where we are celebrating popular food event...'. However, there are several grammatical errors and punctuation issues, including a comma splice in the opening ('Myself Mirza Vilayath, I have been...'), missing capitalization for proper nouns ('parker hall'), fragment sentences ('The Biryani!'), and subject-verb agreement or preposition issues ('one of the famous dish'). Complex structures often contain minor faults. Despite these errors, the reader can follow the meaning easily, and the mix of structures with manageable flaws fits the Band 6 descriptor well.
