Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response addresses the prompt only partially, placing it at this level as the bullet points are covered in a limited and underdeveloped manner. While you do offer to make a popular dish and attempt to describe it, the descriptions of dishes from various regions such as Gujarat, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Kolkata are merely listed rather than being properly elaborated. Furthermore, the explanation of why the dish should be included lacks depth, relying on very basic justifications such as allowing people to experience different tastes and feel proud. To reach a higher level, you would need to select a single specific dish, provide a vivid description of its ingredients and preparation, and fully develop the reasons why its unique flavours would appeal to attendees at an international food event.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some organisation present in the letter, as it opens with an appropriate greeting, is divided into logical paragraphs, and closes with a standard sign-off. However, there is no clear overall progression of ideas, particularly within the second body paragraph where multiple regions and dishes are abruptly introduced in a list-like fashion without smooth transitions. Cohesive devices are used rather repetitively and mechanically, such as starting multiple sentences with 'First' or 'Moreover', and referencing between sentences is occasionally unclear, as seen with phrases like 'In this way people can experience different taste of India. Recognise them with different culture...'. To improve, you should ensure that ideas flow logically from one sentence to the next using a wider and more natural variety of cohesive links.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task, demonstrating some control over everyday topics while containing noticeable errors. You attempt some less common vocabulary related to food and culture, such as 'iconic', 'legendary', and regional dish names like 'dhokla' and 'Rasgulla'. However, there are frequent errors in spelling and word choice that cause some difficulty for the reader, such as 'writting', 'dilicious', 'heartly', and the phrase 'India is a group of culture'. Additionally, word forms are sometimes inaccurate, as seen in 'Punjab recognize by' instead of 'is recognised by'. To achieve a higher score, you should expand your range of vocabulary and pay closer attention to accurate spelling, word formation, and natural collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The text displays a limited range of grammatical structures, relying primarily on simple sentences alongside a few faulty attempts at complex ones. There are frequent errors in grammar throughout the letter that can cause difficulty for the reader, including missing articles ('add some well known and dilicious dishes of India in this event'), incorrect prepositions ('in once in a while'), and subject-verb agreement issues ('Rajasthan famous for'). Punctuation and sentence boundaries also need attention, particularly regarding sentence fragments like 'Same as Punjab recognize by their lassi and cholle bhature'. To move up to the next band, you must increase your control over basic grammar rules, ensure accurate verb forms and prepositions, and produce a higher proportion of error-free sentences.
