Dear Luis,
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Luise,
I am writing to express my interest to being a part of popular food fest event as I am also a member of an International students' club. I would like to make delicious dosa during 5th october at 5 PM in our event.
It is an authentic south Indian dish, mashed potatoes spread applied into dosa paper which is served with sambhar and chutney. There are three two types of dosa papers like crispy and regular. A single dosa is enough for a person as a meal of a day.
Youngsters likes it as their dinner meal that is the biggest reason I would like to make it during the event which held in the evening. Also, it is does not contains sugar or any harmful chemicals and it made from rice & lentils which contains nutrients.
I am look forward from hearing from you.
Yours faithfully,
Dhwani Thummar.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response successfully covers all the required bullet points of the task. You have offered to make a popular dish from your country, described what a dosa is, and explained why it should be included in the event, specifically mentioning its nutritional value and appeal to youngsters. However, some ideas are a bit under-developed rather than fully extended. For instance, the description of the dish in the second paragraph mentions 'dosa paper' and 'mashed potatoes spread', but these details could be expanded to provide a richer, clearer picture for the reader. The tone is appropriately semi-formal for a club letter, and the purpose of the communication is clear throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph structure. Each paragraph serves a distinct purpose, moving from the introduction and offer to the description of the food, the reasoning for its inclusion, and finally the sign-off. However, referencing and cohesion are occasionally mechanical or slightly faulty. For example, the transition between ideas in the third paragraph feels a bit abrupt when shifting from 'Youngsters likes it' to the nutritional content. Additionally, referencing could be smoother to guide the reader seamlessly through your points, which keeps the response at this band level.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms related to food and events such as 'authentic', 'nutrients', and 'sambhar and chutney'. There are, however, some noticeable lexical and word-choice errors that reflect this band level. For instance, the phrase 'dosa paper' is unnatural and would be better expressed as a 'dosa crepe' or 'crispy pancake', and 'Youngsters likes it' contains a collocation or form error in the plural agreement. Furthermore, the spelling error in the opening salutation ('Luise' instead of 'Luis') affects the precision of your vocabulary use, though your overall meaning remains clear to the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The text features a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, such as 'I am writing to express my interest to being a part of...'. You demonstrate control over basic sentence structures, but there are several grammatical errors present. For example, 'interest to being' should be 'interest in being', and 'the event which held in the evening' is missing a verb ('which is held' or 'which will be held'). Other issues include 'it is does not contains', which combines auxiliary and verb forms incorrectly, and 'I am look forward from hearing', which mismanages the prepositional pattern. These errors occur regularly across the text, preventing the grammar from reaching a higher band.
