Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You successfully cover all parts of the prompt by offering to make a dish, describing it, and explaining why it should be included in the event, such as representing your state Gujarat and sharing a cultural message. Your purpose is clear from the beginning and maintained throughout the letter. However, some aspects of your response remain slightly under-developed, which keeps your score at this level rather than higher. For instance, when describing the dish, you mention basic ingredients like 'chicken, spices, and a big pot', but you could have expanded further on its texture, aroma, or specific preparation style to fully develop your ideas. To reach the next level, you should ensure that every bullet point is extended with richer, more detailed supporting points.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

Your letter has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear beginning and ending, and you use paragraphs to separate different points, such as your initial offer, the description of the dish, and your concluding thoughts. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty. For example, transitional phrases like 'Futhermore' are misspelled, and some referencing and linking between sentences feel a bit disjointed, such as moving abruptly from the ingredients of biriyani to its health benefits. While you use some cohesive devices, they are not always managed smoothly enough to create a seamless logical progression throughout the text. To improve, you need to use a wider variety of cohesive devices more naturally and ensure tighter logical links between adjacent sentences.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You demonstrate an adequate vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating your message about wanting to cook and share a traditional dish. You attempt some less common vocabulary items, such as 'multicultural nation' and 'ingredients', but your range is limited and contains noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word forms. For example, you write 'organize' instead of 'organised', 'india' with a lowercase letter, 'intrest' instead of 'interest', 'Futhermore', 'choose' instead of 'chose', 'definetly', 'represnt', and 'ingrediant'. Additionally, phrases like 'has delicious taste' could be expressed more naturally. These lexical and spelling inaccuracies occasionally cause slight distraction for the reader, which places your performance firmly within this band range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as conditional and subordinate clauses, as seen in 'Although there are many dishes are popular in India, I choose to represent my favourite dish biriyani.' However, this sentence also contains a grammatical error by combining two verbs ('are popular') incorrectly. You make several other grammar and punctuation errors throughout the text, including tense and agreement issues such as 'an event which organize', 'request you to allowing', 'this dish also give', and 'I hope to seeing'. Despite these errors, they rarely impede overall communication, and your meaning remains clear. To achieve a higher band, you would need to produce a higher proportion of error-free sentences and demonstrate tighter control over verb complements and tense consistency.
