Dear Luis,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Luis,
I am writing this letter on behalf of an International Students' club regarding the most poplular dish from our country India.
Majority of people from India, would not be able to deny the fact that a panner tikka dish is a widely adopted Indian delicacy across the globe. I would like to make a proposal to include this delicious food item at the event.
Talking about paneer tikka, it is a vegetarian tandoori kabab. The preparation starts from marination of the paneer with various spices, curd, and left it for 12 hours. Then It is cooked inside the tandoor to get that aromatic flavours.
I highly recommend this because It is a healthy option. Further, individuals from other countries will enjoy mostly because foreign countries does not have many veg friendly options.
Looking forward to your response.
Yours Faithfully,
Jay

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by offering to make a dish, describing it, and explaining why it should be included. You also maintain an appropriate semi-formal letter tone throughout. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed, particularly your explanation of why the dish should be included, which remains quite brief. Furthermore, it is important to note that the response does not meet the minimum length requirement, as it contains 141 words instead of the required 150 words. To reach a higher band, you need to extend and fully develop all parts of your response while ensuring you safely exceed the word count minimum.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
Your letter shows a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from your opening purpose to your final recommendation. You have made use of paragraphing to structure your thoughts effectively, grouping your introduction, proposal, description, and justification into distinct sections. However, some cohesive devices and referencing are occasionally mechanical or slightly faulty, such as the abrupt transition in 'Then It is cooked inside the tandoor'. To achieve a higher band, you should ensure smoother links between sentences and maintain more consistent referencing throughout the text.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items related to food and cooking, such as 'delicacy', 'marination', and 'tandoor'. There are some word-choice and spelling errors, such as 'poplular' instead of popular and 'panner' instead of paneer, alongside slight awkwardness in phrasing like 'veg friendly options'. Fortunately, these inaccuracies do not impede communication. To move into a higher band, you need to expand your lexical repertoire further and demonstrate greater precision and accuracy in spelling and collocation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over standard structures such as 'I am writing this letter on behalf of...' and 'I highly recommend this because...'. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing articles ('a panner tikka dish', 'inside the tandoor'), incorrect verb forms ('left it for 12 hours' instead of leaving it), and capitalization issues ('Then It is'). However, these errors rarely impede communication. To reach a higher band, you need to incorporate a wider variety of error-free complex structures and improve your overall grammatical accuracy.
