Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response addresses the task only minimally. Although the student attempts to write a letter to Luis, the word count is 134 words, meaning the length requirement is NOT met as the response is 16 words short of the 150-word minimum, and 11 words copied from the prompt were excluded. The response fails to properly cover all bullet points in a cohesive manner; the first bullet point is handled minimally, and the description of the dish is confused, stating the dish is pizza while mentioning it contains spices, vegetables, fruits, and is served with grilled chicken, roasted chicken, and fried rice. The explanation of why it should be included is also repetitive and unclear.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
Information and ideas are not arranged coherently. The letter structure is attempted with a salutation and sign-off, but the body paragraphs lack clear logical progression and connection. Transitional phrases such as 'Moving forward' and 'Moreover' are overused and misused, creating a mechanical and confusing flow of ideas. For instance, the transition between discussing grilled chicken and pizza is abrupt and disorganized, which makes the overall arrangement difficult for the reader to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, with noticeable errors that cause difficulty for the reader. The student relies on basic terms and struggles with word choice and collocation, such as 'my nations', 'filled up with full of spices', and 'westen family'. There are also spelling errors like 'induding' and 'westen'. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to communicate a basic intent, the frequent lexical inaccuracies and awkward phrasing restrict the response to a lower level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
There is a very limited range of structures, with frequent errors that distort meaning. The student attempts complex sentences, but they are often faulty, such as 'I am writing this letter to club manager to organising an event' and 'the main reason why this dish are in the event because most people come from western culture'. Errors in verb forms, prepositions, articles, and subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'this dish are') are persistent throughout the text, causing frequent difficulty and distraction for the reader.
