Dear Luis,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Luis,
I am writing regarding the event that is been organized by the star international club to celebrate the famous food all around the world
I would like to make a dish from my home country that is the famous butter chicken from India and would like to present it during this event. Through this event I can show my cooking skills all around the world.
Butter chicken is made with many ingredients like cashews, red pepper, Indian spices and many more. It is eaten by most of the Indian families and is made in many restaurants. In weddings and ceremonies this dish is popular and is a talk of the town.
This cuisine shows the culture of India and should be present in this event. Moreover, everyone in this event should know the taste and can appreciate the spices and aroma of this dish
I hope you would allow me this opportunity to show my skills and make this dish
Yours Sincerely
Prabhnoor

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all three parts of the prompt, earning a solid score in this area. You clearly address Luis, offer to make a popular dish from your country, describe the dish, and explain why it should be included in the event. For example, you state your intention to bring 'butter chicken from India' and explain that 'this cuisine shows the culture of India'. However, some ideas remain slightly under-developed rather than fully extended. While you mention that the dish is made with 'cashews, red pepper, Indian spices', the explanation of why it fits the specific context of an international food event could be pushed further. To reach the next level, you would need to fully develop all your ideas with richer details and sharper focus on the communicative purpose throughout the entire letter.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear purpose established from the beginning. You use paragraphing to separate different points, such as introducing the dish in the second paragraph, describing its ingredients and popularity in the third, and explaining its cultural relevance in the fourth. However, cohesion can sometimes feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. For instance, the transition 'Moreover' is used to link ideas, but referencing is not always entirely smooth across sentences. To achieve a higher band, you need to manage cohesive devices more flexibly and ensure that the progression of ideas from sentence to sentence flows completely naturally without any abrupt shifts in thought.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, successfully conveying your message to the reader. You make appropriate attempts at less common vocabulary such as 'talk of the town', 'appreciate the spices and aroma', and 'cuisine'. Nevertheless, there are some noticeable inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as writing 'event that is been organized' rather than using precise phrasing, or referring to the dish simply as 'the famous butter chicken'. These minor lexical slips and occasional awkward expressions mean the range remains standard rather than flexible. To improve, aim to incorporate a wider variety of precise, sophisticated vocabulary and idiom-appropriate collocations with greater natural control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms throughout the letter, such as 'I would like to make a dish from my home country that is the famous butter chicken from India'. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as missing punctuation at the ends of sentences and a passive voice error in 'event that is been organized' instead of 'being organized'. These errors rarely impede communication, meaning the reader can easily follow your meaning. To move up to the next band, you should aim to produce a higher proportion of error-free complex sentences and exercise tighter control over verb forms, articles, and punctuation marks.
