Dear Luis,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Luis,
I hope you are doing well and surrounded by love and prosperity. I heard that our club is going to organize an event where they will be celebrating famous cuisines from all over the world. Since, I am a premium member of this international student's club for four years, I also want to make an offer to present a extraordinary dish from my country, India.
At the onset, this dish is known as curry chicken which is quite famous in indian cuisine for many many years. To make this dish more delicious we can add more spices and high quality ingredients in it so it will stand out. The spices, taste and the aroma will make everyone goes on their knees for sure.
Lastly, I believe we should definitely include this dish into our event because this is gonna make them hungry and drool over food for sure.
I will look forward for your response.
Yours faithfully,
Venus.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task. You covered all bullet points by offering to make a dish, describing it, and explaining why it should be included in the event. However, some ideas are under-developed or lack sufficient detail. For instance, while you mention making 'curry chicken' and adding spices, the description remains quite basic and could be expanded to explain the preparation or authentic flavor profile in more depth. Similarly, the explanation of why it should be included focuses heavily on making people hungry ('drool over food') rather than highlighting its cultural significance or suitability for an international food celebration. This keeps the response at a level where all parts are addressed, but certain aspects require fuller development to reach a higher standard.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement and clearly presents a logical progression of ideas from your opening greeting and club membership details down to the final sign-off. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate your introduction, the description of the dish with its inclusion reasons, and your concluding remarks. Cohesive devices are present, such as 'At the onset' and 'Lastly', which help structure the letter. However, some elements of cohesion feel slightly mechanical or are not always managed with complete flexibility. Referencing is generally clear, though smoother transitions between sentences would elevate the flow of the text. Because it clearly structures the message with appropriate paragraphs while exhibiting some minor mechanical limitations in cohesive devices, it achieves a solid performance in this area.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You display an adequate range of vocabulary for the task and successfully attempt less common lexical items such as 'prosperity', 'cuisines', and 'aroma'. There are, however, some word choice, collocation, and spelling errors that prevent a higher score. For example, 'extraordinary dish' is used where 'an extraordinary dish' is needed, and phrases like 'goes on their knees' and 'look forward for your response' are unnatural collocations in this context. Furthermore, 'indian' should be capitalized as 'Indian'. These errors do not impede communication, as your overall meaning remains clear, but they highlight the need for greater precision in word selection and stylistic appropriateness.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as your introductory conditional structure beginning with 'Since, I am a premium member...'. You show good control over basic sentence patterns, but there are noticeable errors in grammar and punctuation. For instance, the unnecessary comma after 'Since' disrupts the grammatical flow, and preposition use within patterns shows minor inaccuracies, such as 'include this dish into our event' instead of 'in our event'. While these errors in grammar and punctuation exist, they rarely impede communication and your meaning remains understandable. A greater variety of error-free complex structures and closer attention to punctuation rules will help you progress further.
