Dear Luis,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Luis,

I would like to participate in the event with our traditional famous dish Plov. In my opinion guests will like it because I used to work as a chef at one our traditional restaurant for few years. Our reviews were excellant and that's why I am so confident about my cooking skills.

Dish contains carrot, meat, rice, onion and oil. This time I would like to cook it in two different ways. First way will be the usual way that I used to cook and second way will be something new for the people who prefer veggies, I will not add any meat for that option, only vegetables. I hope people who do not eat meat will also enjoy from our main dish.

As Plov our signiture dish, I strongly believe that it should take part in this event. It gives idea about my country to the people who do not know about us that much and speads traditional taste to others.

Yours sincerely,

Zukhriddin

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

You address all three points clearly: you offer to prepare Plov, explain its ingredients and two versions, and give a reason for including it. Your experience as a chef and the positive restaurant reviews support your confidence, while the vegetarian option shows consideration for different guests. The explanation that Plov introduces your country’s food culture is relevant, though it is less developed than the description of the dish; you could explain what makes its flavour or preparation distinctive. The letter is appropriately addressed to Luis and has a suitable closing. Overall, the task is fully covered with a clear purpose, while a little more specific support for the cultural value would strengthen the response further.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: the opening offers your participation, the next paragraph describes the dish and its variations, and the final paragraph explains why it belongs at the event. This progression makes the purpose easy to follow. You also use linking expressions such as “because,” “First,” and “As” to connect ideas. However, some connections feel mechanical or unclear, particularly “As Plov our signiture dish,” and the final paragraph moves quickly from the dish’s status to its cultural value. Use complete linking clauses and make the relationship between ideas explicit. Paragraphing is appropriate, but more flexible transitions and clearer referencing would make the flow smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main ideas, and terms such as “traditional,” “ingredients,” “vegetables,” and “cooking skills” suit the topic. You also attempt more specific expressions, including “two different ways” and “people who prefer veggies,” although the latter is informal for this letter. Several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision: “excellant,” “signiture,” and “speads” should be corrected, and “enjoy from” is not a natural collocation. “Popular dish” and “main dish” are understandable but could be more precise. Build accuracy with common food and cultural vocabulary, and check spelling and collocations carefully; this would make your message more fluent and natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple sentences and longer structures, including a reason clause (“because I used to work as a chef”) and a relative clause (“people who do not eat meat”). The meaning remains clear throughout, and the two cooking options are explained in connected sentences. Some grammatical errors remain, however: “one our traditional restaurant” needs a possessive or article, “for few years” needs an article, and “Dish contains” needs a determiner. The sentence beginning “As Plov…” is also missing a verb, and “I hope people … will also enjoy from” has an incorrect grammatical pattern. Practise articles, complete clause structure, and verb patterns, while retaining your attempts at longer sentences.
