Dear Luis,

Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Luis,

We are planning to organise food festival on 20th Oct from worldwide and we request you to offer butter chicken from our country which is most popular and famous dish.

This particular dish is well known in other countries like Europe and mainly in Asia Pacific. Since I am travelling to several countries for business purpose so I know about this dish as many of tehm talk regarding this dish when I am in some restaurant and knowing that I am from India.

I would prefer this dish beacuse it contains less spice and more towards the sweetness as many people other than Asian would not love to have spicy food. Also this will go very well with butter garlic naan and mint sauce. I would suggest to add some cream over the dish and some leave leaves which gives good aroma. Moreover, the presentation when adding this ingridiants will make teh dish look for beautiful and attractive.

Lastly, I would appreciate your confirmation on this idea and moving forward for to host this event.

Thanking you,

Warm regards,

Kirti

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three points: you offer butter chicken, describe its mild, slightly sweet flavour and accompaniments, and explain that it may suit guests who prefer less spicy food. The dish is relevant and your reason for including it is understandable. However, some points are less fully developed: the description focuses more on serving suggestions and presentation than on what the dish itself is made from or how it is prepared. The opening also says “we request you to offer” rather than clearly offering to prepare it yourself, so your role is not entirely clear. State directly that you would be happy to make and bring the dish, then add one or two specific details about its ingredients or preparation.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a recognisable progression from the proposed dish, to its popularity, to its flavour and presentation, and finally to a request for confirmation. Paragraph breaks and signposting such as “Also,” “Moreover,” and “Lastly” help the reader follow the main points. At times, however, the connections feel mechanical or the reference is unclear. For example, “This particular dish” follows the opening, but the long sentence beginning “Since I am travelling” makes the reason for mentioning your travel difficult to track. The final sentence, “moving forward for to host this event,” also does not clearly connect your request to the organiser’s next step. Use shorter, more focused sentences and make each paragraph develop one clear purpose.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main idea, including “spice,” “sweetness,” “butter garlic naan,” “mint sauce,” and “presentation.” There are also attempts at more descriptive language, such as “good aroma” and “attractive.” However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems make the letter less natural: “food festival from worldwide,” “business purpose,” and “some leave leaves” are unclear or awkward, while “tehm,” “beacuse,” “ingridiants,” and “teh” are misspelled. Choose more precise expressions, such as “an international food festival,” “for business,” and “fresh herbs,” and proofread carefully. This would make your meaning easier to understand and your descriptions more fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a reason clause with “Since” and a comparison using “as many people…would not love to have spicy food.” The main message is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity and naturalness. For example, “organise food festival” needs an article, and “I would prefer this dish be included” would be more complete with “that” or a clearer construction. The sentence beginning “Since I am travelling…” is also awkwardly structured, and “moving forward for to host” contains an incorrect verb pattern. Practise articles, clause structure, and verb patterns, and divide long sentences when they become difficult to control. These changes will help you express the same ideas more accurately.
