Dear Luis,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Luis,
I am Ema, a member of an International Student's club. I have heard that the club is going to organise an event to celebrate popular food from around the world and you are an organiser. I am writing to suggest you to add one of the popular sweet dish of my country, India. It's called custard made with ingredients like milk, sugar, custard and a mix of some chopped fruits. The main reason behind it's popularity is that it is rich in protein and vitamins because it has a lots of fruits and nuts which is both healthy and nutritional. As many people and of course, most of our club members are habitual of skipping a meal in the mornings, they can eat this dish as their breakfast, lunch and even dinner.
I would be grateful if you add this dish in the food list presented in the event.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Ema

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three points: you offer to contribute a dish, identify it as fruit custard, and explain its nutritional value and possible use as a meal. The description gives ingredients, while the reason for inclusion is relevant, but the claim that members could eat it for “breakfast, lunch and even dinner” is broad and would benefit from a more specific explanation of its appeal at an international food event. The response is also two words below the 150-word minimum, so it does not fully meet the task’s length requirement. Add a little detail about how the dish is prepared or served, and explain more directly what visitors would learn or enjoy by trying it.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter follows a sensible order: you introduce yourself and the event, present the dish and its benefits, then make a request and close politely. This makes the main message easy to follow. However, most of the content is placed in one long paragraph, so the offer, description and justification are not clearly separated. Some links also feel mechanical, particularly “The main reason behind it’s popularity” and “As many people and of course,” which interrupt the flow. Use two or three short paragraphs and connect ideas more smoothly—for example, move from the ingredients to the dish’s appeal, then explain why it suits the event. The closing is appropriate, though the request could be linked more clearly to your offer.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for a familiar topic, including “popular,” “ingredients,” “chopped fruits,” “protein,” and “nutritional.” These choices communicate the dish and its claimed benefits. There are some inaccurate or unnatural expressions, however: “sweet dish” would be more natural as “sweet dessert,” “a lots of fruits” is incorrect, and “habitual of skipping a meal” is an awkward collocation. “Custard made with ingredients like milk, sugar, custard” is also imprecise because it repeats the dish’s name instead of identifying the custard powder or other ingredients. Choose more precise food vocabulary and natural collocations, such as “a fruit custard dessert” and “often skip breakfast.” This would make the description clearer and more fluent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the reason clause beginning “because” and the sentence starting “As many people…”. The message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors are present. For example, “I am writing to suggest you to add” needs a different verb pattern (“suggest adding” or “suggest that you add”), and “one of the popular sweet dish” needs plural agreement (“dishes”). In “behind it’s popularity,” the possessive form should be “its,” while “it has a lots” has an article and number error. Review verb patterns, agreement and possessives, and break up the long sentence about members’ meals to improve control and readability.
