Dear Luis,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Luis,
I hope this message finds you in healthiest condition. I recently received an invitation about the Regional Club organizing famous food festival to merrymake delicious food from all over the globe. Hence, I had a thought that i should recommend you to include Biryani as one of the festive savories, a popular rice dish from my beloved country India.
As delicious it sounds as remarkable it is to eat. Biryani is eaten almost everyday in almost all around my nation. To give you an idea about its popularity , it is widely believed that at an average one thousand pounds of biryani is consumed in every 50Km square feet.
Now to describe what it consists of, the huge proportion of the Basmati rice, vegetables or paneer(cottage cheese) or any type of meat, ghee and not to mention mixture of best available spices are used to prepare this dish. This dish takes about 6-7 hours to prepare as it needs to be left on low heat for proper cooking and that delicious aromatic flavours.
Because of its versalities and its suitability with vegan, vegetarian or non-vegetatrians this dish will definately stand out at this beautiful cultural food event. If you need detailed recipe or need any assistance making it, please feel free to connect with me.
I wish you very best for the preparation of this event and I am very excited for the event to be successful and to attend it.
yours faithfully,
Vishalkumar rana

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
You address all three points clearly: you offer to make biryani, explain its ingredients and preparation, and give reasons for including it, especially its popularity and suitability for different diets. The offer to provide the recipe or help with cooking also makes the letter purposeful. Your ideas are generally extended with relevant detail, such as the slow cooking process and the use of rice, vegetables, paneer or meat. However, the claim about “one thousand pounds” consumed per “50Km square feet” is difficult to interpret and may weaken the support for your point. The reason based on dietary versatility is clearer, but could be developed with a specific example of how the dish can be adapted for guests.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear progression: you introduce the event and your offer, describe biryani, explain its suitability, and close politely. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and linking phrases such as “Now to describe” and “Because of” make the relationships between ideas apparent. The sequence within the description is also mostly logical, moving from popularity to ingredients and preparation. At times, however, transitions sound formulaic or do not connect ideas smoothly; “As delicious it sounds as remarkable it is to eat” interrupts the flow before the explanation. The popularity statistic is also hard to follow in its paragraph. More natural transitions and clearer links between each supporting detail would make the progression more effortless.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “aromatic flavours,” “mixture of spices,” “low heat,” and “cultural food event.” These choices help convey the dish’s appeal and preparation. You also attempt more ambitious expressions, but some are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “healthiest condition,” “merrymake delicious food,” “festive savories,” and “stand out at this beautiful cultural food event.” Spelling and word-form slips, including “versalities,” “vegetatrians,” and “definately,” also reduce precision. Communication remains clear overall, but more reliable collocations and careful proofreading would make your vocabulary sound more natural and controlled.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including the conditional-style offer “If you need detailed recipe … please feel free to connect with me” and the explanation of how the dish is cooked. Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “As delicious it sounds as remarkable it is to eat” has an incorrect comparative structure, while “I had a thought that i should recommend you” needs a more accurate clause pattern. There are also issues with articles and sentence construction in “at an average one thousand pounds … is consumed” and “that delicious aromatic flavours.” Capitalisation and punctuation, including lowercase “i” and inconsistent spacing before commas, need attention. Review sentence patterns and article use to improve accuracy.
