Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear luis,
I am writing this letter to you for preparing a punjabi dish for international event. The name of the dish is sarson da saag and makki di roti which describe our rich punjabi culture and tradition.
Sarson da saag is very delicious curry made from mustard greens, spinach and various spices. Usually, It is served with makki di roti which made from corn flour. This dish topped with little butter and more ghee which make the dish more tasty. Moreover, onions and green chillies are used as a salad with it. This dish popular during the winter season.
According to me, this dish should included in the event for several reason.First and foremost, it provide rich nutritions and vitamins because it contains green vegetables. Secondly, international student would enjoy a lot to taste their punjabi culture dish with same taste and preparation.
I would be happy to prepare this dish for event and I look forward for your response.
your faithfully
Gurman

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three points clearly: you offer to prepare sarson da saag with makki di roti, explain its ingredients and serving style, and give reasons for including it. Details such as mustard greens, spinach, corn flour, butter and ghee make the dish understandable, while its connection to Punjabi culture and winter gives the proposal a clear purpose. The reasons about nutrition and letting students experience Punjabi food are relevant, though the cultural benefit is stated quite generally and could be supported with a more specific example. The offer and closing are appropriate for a letter to the organiser. To strengthen the response further, explain more precisely what makes this dish distinctive or appealing to an international audience.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall progression: you introduce the offer, describe the dish, explain why it belongs at the event, and close politely. Paragraphing supports this sequence, and signposts such as “Moreover” and “First and foremost” help readers follow the points. The organisation is coherent, but some linking is mechanical, particularly the sequence “First and foremost” followed by “Secondly.” The sentence beginning “According to me” also shifts into a somewhat formulaic style rather than connecting smoothly to the description. Some references, such as “it” in the nutrition explanation, could be made more precise. Use a wider variety of natural transitions and connect the cultural and nutritional reasons more smoothly to the event’s purpose.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for describing the dish and its cultural context. Specific terms such as “mustard greens,” “corn flour,” “spices,” and “winter season” help convey concrete information, and “rich Punjabi culture and tradition” communicates the dish’s significance. There are, however, some inaccurate or unnatural choices and collocations, including “for preparing a Punjabi dish,” “rich nutritions,” and “taste their Punjabi culture dish with same taste and preparation.” These do not prevent understanding, but they reduce precision and naturalness. Aim for more idiomatic phrasing and accurate word forms, especially when explaining benefits. For example, describe the dish as a traditional Punjabi meal and say that it offers nutritional value or gives students a chance to experience Punjabi cuisine.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple sentences and some more developed structures, including “which is made from corn flour” in the dish description and a reason clause with “because.” The main ideas remain understandable, but some errors in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence construction limit accuracy. Examples include “which made from corn flour,” “This dish popular,” “this dish should included,” and “it provide.” The sentence “This dish topped with little butter and more ghee which make the dish more tasty” also needs clearer clause structure and agreement. Practise complete verb phrases and consistent subject–verb agreement, and check articles and punctuation when joining clauses. More accurate control of these patterns would make your descriptions smoother.
