Dear Luis,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Luis,
I am writing to propose an offer to make a delicious cuisine of my hometown in the upcoming event.
Since , an event involves celebrating popular dishes from the worldwide. I would like to make 'Gulab Jamun' , that is most popular sweet of India. This sweet is prepared in every household on famous occasions from birthday parties to Diwali.Additionally, there is hardly any individual who does not like the taste of this dessert in my country.
Moving forward, this cuisine is specially made from the rice flour and sugary liquid, which is easily accesible in the supermarkets. This dish can be served with 'Rabdi', a white liquid which is usually prepared from thickening of milk.It also consists of lot of dry fruits ,which is healthy to consume .
One possible reason to include this food in the event is that there is higher chances of people enjoying this delicious food as I heard many of our members craving for it few times. Not only this, it will give us higher profit as it does not involve much energy and money in its making. It would attract a lot of customers.
I believe this would benefit our club and I hope you will give it a consideration.
Best regards,
Charushikha

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you offer to prepare Gulab Jamun, describe its ingredients and serving option, and explain its popularity and potential appeal to members. The letter is relevant and your offer is clear. The description is more developed than the reasons for inclusion, however. The claim that members have craved it is useful, but the profit and low-cost points are asserted rather than explained, and “higher profit” may not be the strongest reason for a club celebration. To strengthen the response, explain what makes the dish distinctive or culturally representative, and support your claims about members’ interest with a specific detail. This would make the ideas more consistently extended while retaining the clear purpose already present.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall sequence: you introduce your offer, describe the sweet, give reasons for including it, and close politely. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and connectors such as “Additionally,” “Moving forward,” and “Not only this” show an effort to link ideas. Some links feel mechanical or do not express the relationship precisely; “Moving forward” is an awkward transition into a description, while “Not only this” does not lead to a balanced paired construction. The opening sentence of the second paragraph is also unclear (“Since, an event involves…”), which interrupts progression. Use simpler, more natural transitions and make each paragraph’s central point explicit to improve the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for the topic, including “upcoming event,” “household,” “sugary liquid,” “thickening of milk,” and “craving for it.” These choices communicate the dish and its appeal, and the reader can follow your meaning. However, some less common or formal expressions are used inaccurately or unnaturally: “propose an offer,” “delicious cuisine,” and “higher chances” do not fit the intended meaning or collocation. There are also spelling and word-form slips, such as “accesible,” and “lot of dry fruits” is imprecise. Aim for natural, specific food vocabulary and check spelling; accurate everyday phrasing will be more effective than unnecessarily elaborate wording.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You attempt a mix of simple and complex forms, including the relative clause in “a white liquid which is usually prepared…” and the conditional idea “as it does not involve…”. Most meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors and punctuation problems are noticeable. For example, “Since, an event involves…” is an incomplete and incorrectly punctuated opening, and “that is most popular sweet” is missing an article. In “there is higher chances,” the subject and verb do not agree, while “it does not involve much energy and money in its making” has an awkward grammatical pattern. Review articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries, and read the letter aloud to catch missing spaces after full stops and commas.
