Dear Luis,
Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Luis,
I am writing you to offer my help in upcoming International food festival. I would be delighted to prepare a popular Indian dish called Biryani for the event.
Biryani is a traditional dish which is cooked with rice, aromatic spices, vegetable, meat and fresh herbs. It is well known for its rich flavor and pleasant fragrance. The ingredient are cooked together to create a delicious meal that is enjoyed by people of all ages. It is often served with yogurt and refreshing salad.
I believe biryani would be an excellent addition to the event for several reasons. Firstly it is one of the most famous dishes in India and represent Indian cuisine diversity. Secondly, its unique combination of spices would allow international students to experience the authentic taste of Indian food. Moreover, I could prepare a vegetarian version so that students with different dietary preference could enjoy it.
I would be happy to bring the necessary ingredient so that everyone could enjoy different taste and variety. Looking forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely,
Mohammed Yasir

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 8.0
The letter fulfils all three requirements clearly: you offer to prepare biryani, describe its ingredients and serving style, and explain its cultural and inclusive value. Details such as “aromatic spices,” serving it with yoghurt and salad, and offering a vegetarian version make the proposal relevant and well supported. The reasons for inclusion are also clear: it represents Indian cuisine and gives students a chance to experience its flavours. To make the ideas even more fully developed, you could add a practical detail about how you would prepare or serve it at the event, or explain more specifically what makes the dish distinctive. Overall, the purpose and audience are handled effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.5
The information follows a clear, sensible sequence: you introduce your offer, describe the dish, explain why it suits the event, and close with a willingness to help. Paragraphing supports this progression, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “Moreover” make the reasons easy to follow. The links are generally effective, though the list of reasons feels slightly formulaic, and “I would be happy to bring the necessary ingredient” moves quickly from the proposal to logistics without specifying what you would bring. A more natural transition or a brief practical detail would make the final paragraph connect more smoothly. The letter format and closing are appropriate.
Lexical Resource: Band 7.0
You use a suitable range of food and cultural vocabulary, including “traditional dish,” “aromatic spices,” “rich flavor,” “pleasant fragrance,” and “authentic taste.” These choices help the reader picture the dish and explain its appeal. There are occasional inaccuracies in word form or collocation, such as “the ingredient are cooked together” and “different taste and variety”; these are understandable but reduce precision. “Indian cuisine diversity” is also less natural than a phrase such as “the diversity of Indian cuisine.” To strengthen this criterion, keep building precise collocations and check singular and plural forms when choosing food-related vocabulary. Your meaning remains clear throughout.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, including the relative clause in “a traditional dish which is cooked with rice” and the purpose clause “so that students with different dietary preference could enjoy it.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “I am writing you” needs a preposition (“writing to you”), “in upcoming International food festival” needs an article, and “the ingredient are cooked” has a subject–verb agreement error. There are also plural and agreement issues in “vegetable,” “ingredient,” and “represent.” These do not prevent understanding, but careful editing of articles, plurals, and verb forms would improve accuracy while preserving your sentence variety.
