Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Mr.Luis,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing to inform you regarding the club, which is planning to oragnize an event to celebrate the most famous food from around the world.

As a pakistani I would like to offer you to make a popular dish from my country because pakistan's culture involve hospitality. Some people most like traditional cuisines while others like to eating other kind of food, such as international food.

The dish that I really offer you to make is baryani, which is the most traditional dish for its delicious taste and ingredients. This dish is easy and quick to make. Pakistani individuals cook it in various other ways like adding natural spices and ingredients.

I would greatly appreciate it if you could make it the part of your food event. Because just not only Pakistani attract to its smell but also it is very favourable dish of other countries.

Thank you for concidering my suggestion. I look forward to your prompt response.

Yours faithfully,

Anita Nazir

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three points: you offer to prepare a Pakistani dish, identify biryani, and give a reason for including it. The cultural link to hospitality and the claim that people in other countries enjoy it are relevant. However, the description is brief: “delicious taste and ingredients” does not explain what the dish contains or how it is prepared, and the reason for its inclusion is not fully developed. The sentence about people preferring traditional or international food is also unclear and does not strongly support your offer. Add a concrete description, such as rice cooked with spices and meat or vegetables, and explain how it would introduce guests to Pakistani cuisine.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a recognisable structure, with an opening, separate paragraphs for the offer and dish description, a request, and a polite closing. The sequence is generally easy to follow, and phrases such as “The dish that…” help signal a new point. Some connections are less clear or mechanical, however. The opening repeats information already given in the task, while “Because just not only Pakistani attract to its smell…” is difficult to connect smoothly to the request before it. Use clearer linking and reference, for example, connect the dish’s popularity directly to why it would suit the event. A more focused opening and a clearer progression from offer to description to justification would strengthen the letter.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “traditional dish,” “natural spices,” “hospitality,” and “international food,” so the reader can understand the general message. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which makes parts of the letter awkward: “offer you to make,” “most like,” and “favourable dish” do not express your meaning naturally. There are also spelling errors, including “oragnize,” “baryani,” and “concidering.” Use the standard spelling “biryani” and choose more precise phrases such as “I would be happy to prepare” and “popular with people from other countries.” This would make your vocabulary more natural and precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the relative clause in “baryani, which is…” and the contrast structure beginning “not only…but also.” The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity and naturalness. For example, “Pakistan's culture involve hospitality” has a subject–verb agreement problem, and “Some people most like traditional cuisines” has an unclear sentence structure. The final justification, “Because just not only Pakistani attract to its smell,” is also grammatically incomplete and difficult to interpret. Practise accurate agreement, articles, and complete clause structures, and check that paired constructions such as “not only…but also” have parallel forms.
