Dear Luis,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Luis,
I am writing to participate in an upcoming event of the students' club. I have excellent culinary skills. Consequently, I want to make biryani, it is a one of the delicious indian dishes. It would be an honour for me to present the India at an international platform.
Biryani is mainly a complete blend of rice, chicken and indigenous spices. It takes at least 3 hours to complete the making process because the gas flame should be low during the cooking process. Moreover, it would be served with rayta and salads.
Honesty speaking, all of my near and dear people like its flavour. Furthermore, I would appreciate it if you could let me make biryani in a celebration as it is an eminent dish in an indian delicacy. It is worth to inculcate in the event.
Thank you for your time, and I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely,
Reena

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three points clearly: you offer to prepare biryani, describe its ingredients and cooking method, and explain that it is popular with people close to you and represents Indian cuisine. The offer is explicit in “I want to make biryani,” and the closing request reinforces it. The description gives useful detail about rice, chicken, spices, low-heat cooking, and accompaniments. Your reason for inclusion is relevant, though “all of my near and dear people like its flavour” is a personal and somewhat general justification; explaining its wider popularity or cultural significance would make the case more fully supported. Overall, the purpose and position remain clear throughout, with some scope to develop the rationale further.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening offer, a paragraph describing the dish, and a final paragraph explaining its appeal before a polite closing. This makes the main progression easy to follow. You also use linking expressions such as “Consequently,” “Moreover,” and “Furthermore.” However, some connections feel mechanical or do not express the relationship precisely, and the long gaps and uneven spacing interrupt the presentation. The sentence “I want to make biryani, it is…” also joins two ideas without a suitable link or punctuation, which weakens flow. Use fewer, more natural transitions and connect each paragraph’s ideas more smoothly to strengthen cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task and includes some attempts at more formal or specific language, such as “culinary skills,” “indigenous spices,” and “international platform.” The reader can understand the dish and your reasons for proposing it. However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural in context: “present the India” and “an eminent dish in an Indian delicacy” do not express your meaning clearly, while “Honesty speaking” appears to be an incorrect phrase. Spelling and capitalization also need attention in “indian,” “rayta,” and “flavour” (choose a consistent spelling convention). Aim for natural collocations and precise wording rather than formal-sounding phrases that do not fit the context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex forms, including the reason clause “because the gas flame should be low” and the polite conditional “I would appreciate it if you could let me…”. Most of the message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “it is a one of” has an unnecessary article, and “I want to make biryani, it is…” is a comma splice joining two independent clauses. “It is worth to inculcate” also uses an incorrect infinitive pattern; a gerund construction would be needed. Review articles, sentence boundaries, and verb patterns, while retaining the range of structures you have attempted.
