Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Luis,
I hope you are doing well. I am writting regarding the upcoming international Food Festival that our club is organizing, as I like would to contribute to the event. Having heard about the plans. I would like to prepare and present a signature dish from my home country, that is chicken Biryani. Which I believe would be a wonderful addition to the celebration.
As for its description, this is very flavourful dish which is made up of rice and chicken, yogurt and some special spices. It is put together slowly on low flame. So that all the flavours comes perfectly. I can also bring fresh raita and salad alongside .
What makes it truly special is that its not just food its a symbol of hospitility in our culture.I firmly beleive that it should be included in the event because it will definitely go down well with eveyone, as it is loved by both vegetarians and non vegetarians and its easy to share with large crowd. Moreover many international students have never tried it before, so it would be unique experience for them.
I look forward to your reply.
Best Regards
Ahmad shah

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
You address all three points clearly: you offer to prepare chicken biryani, describe its ingredients and cooking method, and explain its cultural significance and appeal to students who have not tried it. The offer is direct, and the reason that it represents hospitality gives the dish a meaningful connection to your country. Your explanation that it is easy to share also supports its suitability for a group event. To make the ideas more fully developed, clarify the claim that it is “loved by both vegetarians and non vegetarians,” since chicken biryani is not suitable for vegetarians as described. You could also add a specific detail about its flavour or serving style to make the description more informative.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear progression: you introduce your offer, describe the dish, explain why it belongs at the event, and close politely. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and phrases such as “As for its description” and “What makes it truly special” signal the shift between purposes. Some connections are less smooth because sentence fragments interrupt the flow, particularly “Having heard about the plans.” and “Which I believe would be a wonderful addition.” The transition “So that all the flavours comes perfectly” also feels detached from the cooking explanation. Link these ideas into complete sentences and use punctuation to show how the cooking method leads to the result.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for this familiar topic, including relevant terms such as “signature dish,” “flavourful,” “special spices,” and “symbol of hospitality.” These choices help communicate both the food and its cultural importance. There are, however, some spelling and word-choice errors that reduce precision, including “writting,” “hospitility,” and “beleive.” A few expressions are also awkward or imprecise: “put together slowly on low flame” and “go down well with everyone” could be expressed more naturally for a formal club letter. Check spelling carefully and choose collocations that describe cooking and serving accurately; this will make your vocabulary more controlled without needing unnecessarily complex words.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You attempt a mix of simple and more complex forms, including “I would like to prepare and present…” and the reason clause beginning “because it will definitely go down well…”. The message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors appear in both sentence boundaries and basic structures. For example, “Having heard about the plans.” is an incomplete sentence, while “Which I believe…” is a dependent clause incorrectly separated from the sentence before it. There are also agreement and article errors in “all the flavours comes” and “this is very flavourful dish.” Review how to join dependent clauses, use articles with singular countable nouns, and match verbs to plural subjects. More accurate sentence construction would strengthen the range you are already attempting.
