Dear Luis,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Luis,
I am very please to hear this news that club is arranging an event to celebrate famous food from around the world. I am writing this letter as a member of this club to request you that a famous food from my country should be included in your event.
Moreover, I want to inform you that Biryani is a popular cuisine of my homeland. It is rich in flavor with plenty of spicy ingredients. Additionally, it is a mouth watering dish and everyone loves this food.
Last but not least, you should include this in this international food event because biryani is our traditional food and it would definitely aware other foreign individuals about my state tradition. In addition to this, if it will include in your cuisine, it would results in cultural awareness of my country at broader scale and people would want to try again this savory food in future as well.
I hope you will consider my request and I am waiting for your positive response.
Yours sincerely,
Nosheen

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you offer biryani, describe it as a spicy, flavourful dish, and explain that it represents your tradition and could encourage cultural awareness. The purpose is clear and the tone is generally appropriate for writing to an organiser. The explanation of the dish is relevant but brief, and the reasons for including it rely mainly on broad claims such as “everyone loves this food” and that people “would want to try again.” To strengthen the response, add a concrete detail about what biryani contains or how it is prepared, and explain more specifically what visitors could learn from tasting it. This would extend the ideas and make the case for inclusion more persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening request, a paragraph describing biryani, a paragraph explaining its cultural value, and a polite closing. This makes the message easy to follow. You also use linking expressions such as “Additionally,” “Last but not least,” and “In addition to this” to connect points. However, several transitions feel formulaic, and the final paragraph repeats the idea of cultural awareness rather than developing a distinct reason. Some references, such as “this” in “you should include this,” could be more precise. For stronger progression, organise the reasons in a clear sequence and use fewer, more natural links between them.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task and includes some expressive choices, such as “rich in flavor,” “traditional food,” and “cultural awareness.” These help communicate the dish’s appeal and significance. You also attempt less common language, but some choices are inaccurate or unnatural: “popular cuisine” is less suitable for one dish, “aware other foreign individuals” does not express the intended meaning naturally, and “at broader scale” is awkward. “Mouth watering” is also usually written as “mouth-watering.” Aim for precise collocations and avoid repeating general terms such as “food” and “dish.” More specific vocabulary for ingredients, preparation, and cultural significance would add flexibility and precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use both simple sentences and longer structures, including a conditional sentence beginning “if it will include,” so there is some range. The main message remains understandable, but errors in verb forms, agreement, and articles reduce accuracy. For example, “I am very please” should be “I am very pleased,” and “it would definitely aware” needs a verb form such as “it would make … aware.” In “if it will include,” the conditional structure is faulty; use “if it is included.” The phrase “it would results” also has incorrect agreement and should be “it would result.” Review these patterns and check articles, as in “the club,” to improve control while retaining your longer sentence forms.
