Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three required points: you offer to prepare biryani, describe its ingredients and accompanying lassi, and explain its cultural and nutritional significance. The dish is clearly identified as a popular food from India, and the request for stall details is appropriate to the event. Your explanation that biryani is eaten before demanding work gives a reason for including it, although the claim about people choosing it before going to war is broad and could be explained more carefully. The final sentence about helping international students understand its importance is relevant but unclear. To strengthen the response further, explain more directly what visitors will learn or experience by tasting the dish, while keeping the focus on the event.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter follows a sensible overall order: you introduce the event, present the dish and its ingredients, explain its significance, and finish with practical questions and a polite closing. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages. However, some links between ideas are abrupt, particularly the move from biryani’s ingredients to its history and then to lassi. The final paragraph also combines the tasting purpose, a request for information, thanks, and a closing response phrase, making the ending feel crowded. Use clearer transitions and give each purpose its own sentence or paragraph. References such as “it” in “why it could be taken” are not fully clear, so name the dish or idea again.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a suitable range of topic vocabulary, including “spices,” “nutrients,” “minerals,” “calcium,” and “stall,” which helps communicate the dish’s ingredients and relevance. “Popular cuisines” and “represent Indian culture” also show an attempt to use more formal, varied language. Some choices and combinations are inaccurate or unnatural, however: “a compliment drink” should be “a complementary drink,” and “importance why it could be taken” does not express the intended meaning clearly. There are also spelling and form issues, such as “looking forword” and “indian.” Aim for natural collocations and check spelling and capitalization; this will make your vocabulary more precise without needing unnecessarily complex words.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response includes both simple statements and attempts at longer structures, for example the sentence explaining that biryani contains rice, spices, meat, and vegetables, and the clause about lassi being made from curd and milk. Meaning is generally recoverable, but some grammatical errors remain. Examples include “It include” instead of “It includes,” “This dish having” instead of “This dish has,” and the incomplete construction “Hope international students taste and could be able to know.” The sentence about lassi also joins ideas in a way that makes the relationship between them unclear. Review subject–verb agreement, complete sentence structure, articles, and punctuation spacing. Breaking long sentences into accurate clauses would improve control while preserving variety.
