Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Luis,

I am writting this letter to inform you that our club is organising an event to celebrate famous food overseas and I am a representative of an International Student's club.

To begin with, I would like to offer a famous dish from our country in the event. The dish is mainly a sea food it is made up of various ingridients like green pepper, cucumber and special spices which is made by our chef only to give the dish a fantastic taste.

Secondly, the native individiuals of our country take a long time to catch this fish because it does not found normally. I would recommend you to include this dish in the event as it will increase the hype of the event and everyone will aware about how delicious it is. It will also help me to get a feeback from the individuals about the dish. I would really appreciate if you accept my request.

Yours sincerely,

Ayush

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address the main purpose by offering a dish, describing it as seafood with ingredients such as green pepper, cucumber and spices, and recommending its inclusion. However, the dish is never named or clearly identified, and the description remains vague, so Luis cannot picture what you would prepare. The reason that local people take a long time to catch the fish is also difficult to connect to why it belongs at the event. Your points about raising interest and getting feedback are relevant, but they need clearer explanation and development. To strengthen the letter, name the dish, explain its preparation or distinctive qualities, and show specifically how it would represent your country’s food culture.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The letter has a recognisable structure, with an opening, two body paragraphs, and a suitable closing. Sequencers such as “To begin with” and “Secondly” help signal the order of points. However, the progression is not always clear: the opening repeats the event information rather than moving directly to your offer, and the sentence about the fish being difficult to catch does not clearly lead to your recommendation. Some links are mechanical, and the long sentence beginning “I would recommend” combines several reasons without showing how they relate. Organise the body around the three requested points, and use clearer links between the dish’s features, its cultural value, and the benefits of including it.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the general topic, including “sea food,” “special spices,” “fantastic taste,” and “hype of the event.” There are also attempts at more specific wording, such as “representative” and “native individuals.” However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, and spelling errors such as “writting,” “ingridients,” “individ iuals,” and “feeback” make the writing less polished. Phrases such as “the dish is mainly a sea food” and “the native individuals” are not idiomatic in this context. Aim for precise food-related vocabulary and check spelling; naming the dish and its ingredients would also make the description more informative.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, and the reader can generally understand your main message. However, complex sentences are often not controlled successfully. For example, “The dish is mainly a sea food it is made up…” joins two independent clauses without appropriate punctuation or a conjunction. In “it does not found normally,” the verb construction is incorrect, while “everyone will aware” is missing a required verb. There are also issues with articles and sentence boundaries. Practise building accurate clauses with forms such as “it is not commonly found” and “everyone will become aware,” and use full stops or conjunctions to separate complete ideas.
