Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Luis,

I am writting this letter regarding, international food festival event which our club is organising. I would like to participate and represent my country India with its authentic healthy dish, "Khichadi".

Khichadi, is most popular dish in the Indian household, irrespective of its financial background. To prepare this dish, it requires lentils, rice and water. It is very quick to prepare and testful in nature. In addition of that, the health benifits are also in grater amount, most of the nutritions are required for any human are included in it. Furthermore, it is also a gut friendly and easy to digest hence infant can also consume it at early stage of their development. Each region of the India has its own version of the Khichadi however the key ingredients remains the same.

As our goal of this food festival is "Healthy foods around the world", I believe my application is most suitable for this event.

Your Sinciarly,

Peter Mac

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three points: you offer to represent India with khichadi, explain its ingredients and qualities, and give a reason for including it by linking it to the festival’s healthy-food theme. The description is supported with relevant details, such as its regional variations and suitability for infants, so the purpose is clear throughout. To make the response more fully developed, explain more specifically what makes the dish popular or distinctive to visitors, rather than relying on broad claims such as “most of the nutritions are required for any human.” Also make the offer more practical by mentioning whether you can prepare or bring it and asking about arrangements. The closing could include a clearer request for confirmation.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall progression: you introduce your offer, describe the dish, and then connect it to the event’s theme. Paragraphing helps separate these functions, and linking expressions such as “Furthermore” and “however” show an effort to guide the reader. The sequence within the description is generally understandable, but several ideas are packed into one paragraph, and the long sentence beginning “Furthermore” would be clearer if divided. Some links feel mechanical, particularly “In addition of that,” while the final paragraph moves abruptly from the description to your suitability. A brief transition and a closing request to Luis would make the progression smoother and the letter feel more complete.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “authentic,” “ingredients,” “gut friendly,” and “easy to digest,” which helps communicate the dish’s appeal. There is some attempt to use less common language, but inaccurate word forms, spelling, and collocations are noticeable and sometimes make the meaning less precise: “testful,” “benifits,” “grater amount,” and “nutritions” are examples. “Financial background” is also an awkward way to express that the dish is eaten across social or economic groups. Aim for accurate, natural combinations rather than adding complex-sounding wording; for example, describe the dish as “tasty” and say it “provides many essential nutrients.” Proofreading spelling and choosing familiar collocations would improve clarity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including a relative clause in “which our club is organising” and a contrast introduced by “however.” The main message remains understandable, but errors in sentence construction, articles, agreement, and punctuation recur. For example, “Khichadi, is most popular dish” has an unnecessary comma and missing article, while “To prepare this dish, it requires” uses an awkward subject structure. In “the key ingredients remains,” the plural subject requires a plural verb. The sentence about digestion also needs clearer clause boundaries. Practise building accurate sentences first, then extend them with subordinate clauses; careful checking of articles, subject–verb agreement, and punctuation will make your range more controlled.
