Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Luis,

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing this letter to express my intrest to add one of the best dish from my country which is none othe than flavoured water balls.

Moreover, this dish is very famous as a street food of my country. Basically balls are fried and made from all purpose flour. Then we need to make mixture of mashed potatoes with some spices in it. To add on for making flavoured water we need cilantro , mint and some green chillies grind it well then add in water with some salt. black salt and other spices. For serving, just pop little bit to ball , add potato mixture and pour flavoured water in it than have it on an one bite.

This is one of the my favourite item and quit popular in India. There are many stalls of this items street by street. I strongly agree that people love this dish and we will get much postive reviews about this food. Thank you so much for your support to the club .

yours Faithfully,

Aanal.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points: you offer to prepare a dish, explain how its fried shells, potato filling and flavoured water are made, and give reasons for including it, such as its popularity as Indian street food and the likelihood that guests will enjoy it. The description is the most fully developed part, with useful preparation and serving details. The case for inclusion is relevant but less developed: “people love this dish” and the prediction of positive reviews would be stronger with a specific reason, such as its distinctive combination of flavours or how guests can try a familiar street-food experience. The dish’s name is also unclear (“flavoured water balls”), so identify it by its commonly known name and briefly explain it. Overall, the task is covered, with some ideas needing fuller support.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a clear overall sequence: you introduce your offer, describe the dish and then explain why it belongs at the event. The preparation steps are presented in a sensible order, and phrases such as “Moreover” and “For serving” help guide the reader. However, some linking is mechanical or imprecise: “To add on” does not fit naturally, and “This is one of the my favourite item” shifts abruptly from the recipe to your personal view. The long preparation section would be easier to follow if divided into shorter sentences or grouped into clearer stages. Keep the closing separate and use a consistent letter format. These changes would make the progression smoother and the connections between ideas clearer.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for describing food and preparation, including “street food,” “mashed potatoes,” “spices,” “cilantro” and “mint.” These choices make the dish understandable and show some range beyond basic food words. However, several spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, including “intrest,” “none othe,” “quit popular” and “postive.” Some phrases are also unnatural or unclear, particularly “flavoured water balls” and “pop little bit to ball.” Choose the dish’s recognised name, then explain its components in natural terms, such as crisp shells filled with potato and served with spiced mint water. More accurate spelling and collocations would help you express the same ideas more fluently and precisely.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, especially when explaining how the dish is prepared. The meaning is generally recoverable, but errors in sentence construction and grammatical forms are frequent enough to make parts of the recipe difficult to follow. For example, “Basically balls are fried and made from all purpose flour” needs clearer article use and a more accurate structure, while “then add in water with some salt” lacks a clear subject and has an awkward verb pattern. There are also agreement and number problems in “one of the my favourite item” and “many stalls of this items.” Break the instructions into complete sentences, check singular and plural forms, and use consistent punctuation and capitalisation.
