Dear Luis,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Luis,
I am writing to express my interest in contributing a traditional dish from my country in upcoming international food event. I would be delighted to prepare Chole Bhature, which is the most popular dish in India.
Chole Bhature is traditional North Indian dish, which have spicy chickpea cooked with rich gravy of onions and tomatos, that called Chole, it served with freshly made deep fried bread called Bhature. It is usually garnished with fresh coriander, onions and lemon juice, which enhance the flavours. This dish popular because of its rich taste, good aroma and satisfied combination of spcies.
I believe that this dish is perfect for this international food event for addition, as it gives a opportunity to all students to taste authentic indian cuisine. Moreover, its a vegetarion option so everyone can enjoy that either if they have different dietery preferences..
Please let me know if anything you want to me prepare in advance.
Best Regards,
Harman

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
You address all three points clearly: you offer to prepare Chole Bhature, explain its chickpea curry and fried bread, and give reasons for including it, especially its representation of Indian cuisine and its suitability for vegetarians. The description includes useful details such as the garnish and how the dish is served, so the reader can picture it. Your reasons are relevant, although the claim that it is popular and that “everyone can enjoy” it would be stronger with a more specific explanation, such as its cultural significance or how it could accommodate different tastes. The offer is clear, but you could make the practical contribution more definite by mentioning how many portions you can prepare or asking about event arrangements.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear progression: you introduce your offer, describe the dish, explain its value for the event, and close by asking about preparation. Paragraphing supports this sequence, and linking expressions such as “Moreover” help connect your reasons. The main weakness is that some connections within sentences are awkward, particularly “for addition,” which makes the relationship between the event and your reason unclear. The description also packs several details into one long sentence, reducing readability. Use more natural transitions such as “In addition” and divide the description into shorter sentences. The closing question is relevant, though a more direct request for information would make the final step clearer.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic-specific vocabulary, including “chickpea,” “gravy,” “garnished,” and “authentic cuisine,” which helps explain the dish. There are also attempts at descriptive language, such as “rich taste” and “good aroma.” However, some choices are imprecise or unnatural: “satisfied combination” does not clearly describe the dish, and “in upcoming international food event” is not a natural phrase. Spelling errors in “tomatos,” “spcies,” and “vegetarion,” along with inconsistent capitalization of “Indian,” reduce accuracy. Aim for precise collocations and check spelling carefully; for example, describe the dish as a “satisfying combination” and refer to “the upcoming international food event.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “which is the most popular dish in India” and a reason introduced by “as.” However, some grammatical errors recur and occasionally make sentences difficult to follow. For example, “Chole Bhature is traditional North Indian dish” needs an article, while “which have spicy chickpea cooked” has problems with agreement and sentence construction. The long description also joins clauses with commas where full stops or clearer conjunctions are needed. In the final paragraph, “a opportunity” and “if anything you want to me prepare” show article and clause-pattern errors. Practise article use, subject–verb agreement, and forming indirect questions, while keeping complex sentences manageable.
