Dear Luis,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Luis,
I am writing to offer some traditional dishes from my country, as I believe they would make the event more attractive to the employees. As an event organizer, you have an important responsibilities to make it successful for our company. There I would like to recommend two famous traditional dishes from my country for the event because they represent my culture and would allow our colleagues to experience something new.
The first traditional dish which people of my hometown enjoy in any season is Chole Bhature. It contains chick peas with gravy and spices, served with deep fried bread, salad and pickle which makes it more delicious. Additionally, the sweet dish known as Rasgula is in trend because it is made up of milk and sugar. People make it on special occasions like Diwali.
We should include these two traditional food items of Punjab in the event to present the culture and history. These items are well-known in the international world as well for their flavours and freshness. These traditional ingredients can also be presented to the guests in several ways.
I hope you like the idea. I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours faithfully,
Yo-yo

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you offer dishes, describe Chole Bhature and Rasgula, and explain that they could represent Punjabi culture and introduce colleagues to new food. The descriptions give useful details, such as chickpeas, gravy, spices and fried bread, while the reference to Diwali adds context. This meets the task well, and the offer is clear. However, the task asks you to offer a popular dish, whereas you propose two, and the reason for including them is stated rather generally. The claim that they are known internationally and the comment about presenting ingredients in several ways are not explained. To strengthen the letter, focus on one dish and develop a specific reason, such as its popularity or suitability for sharing at an international event.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening offer, a paragraph describing the foods, a paragraph explaining their cultural value, and a polite closing. Sequencing phrases such as “The first traditional dish” and “Additionally” help readers follow the information. The progression is generally logical, though the opening introduces two dishes before the body describes them, and the final paragraph shifts between culture, international recognition and serving options without developing the links. Some connections also feel mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “traditional” and “These items.” Grouping the description and justification around one chosen dish, then using clearer references to it, would make the progression more focused and cohesive.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for the topic, including food-specific terms such as “chick peas,” “gravy,” “deep fried bread,” “pickle” and “flavours.” These details make the dishes understandable, and “represent my culture” communicates your main point. There are also attempts at less common or descriptive wording, but some choices are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “in trend,” “in the international world,” and “traditional ingredients” when referring to the dishes. “Employees” and “company” also do not fit the club context as well as “members” or “event.” Aim for more natural collocations and precise wording; this would make the letter sound more fluent and appropriately formal without changing its clear meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “The first traditional dish which people of my hometown enjoy” and a reason clause with “because.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “you have an important responsibilities” has an article–plural mismatch, and “It contains chick peas … served with … which makes it more delicious” has an unclear reference and agreement pattern. The sentence beginning “As an event organizer” also does not connect smoothly to the offer. Check singular and plural forms, and make sure relative clauses clearly refer to the intended noun. More consistently accurate sentence construction would improve control while preserving your useful variety.
