Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Luis,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing to recommend you to serve a famous dish in an event of celebrating popular food from different nations. The dish name is Amritsari kulcha, which is very big seller in a beautiful city of india. Amritsar in the main founder of this dish.
This dish is similar to chapatti but it is stuffed with potatoes and onions. So basically, chefs make dough and they put it into shape and then fill it with mixture of potatoes, onions, cilantro and few spices like salt, pepper and chilli. They do not only serve kulcha but also give two sauces and salad to make it more delicious.
Finally, I would like to request to add it in the events' menu as this dish belongs to very famous city which attracts tourist from worldwide nations. We can not miss this dish while celebrating famous food of different countries.
Thank you for your understanding. I look forward to your reply.
Yours sincerely,
Raj

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you offer Amritsari kulcha, explain that it is stuffed with potatoes and onions, and give a reason for including it by linking it to Amritsar’s popularity with tourists. The description of the ingredients and accompaniments makes the dish reasonably clear. However, the offer is phrased as a recommendation to serve it rather than a direct offer to prepare it, and the reason for its inclusion is asserted more than developed. Explain, for example, what the dish represents about your country or why it would interest club members. The response covers the task well overall, but these points are not yet consistently extended and precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall shape: an opening purpose, a paragraph describing the dish, a paragraph explaining why it belongs at the event, and a polite closing. This makes the main information easy to follow. Linking expressions such as “So basically” and “Finally” help signal progression, although the latter sounds slightly mechanical, and the first paragraph moves quickly from the dish’s name to its connection with Amritsar. Some references are also unclear, particularly “they” in the description of how it is made. Use more precise transitions and make the relationship between the dish, its city of origin, and its cultural value explicit. The organisation is coherent, but cohesion is not always smooth.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant food vocabulary, including “stuffed,” “mixture,” “spices,” “cilantro,” and “salad,” which helps communicate what the dish contains. There are also attempts at more specific expressions such as “popular food from different nations.” However, several word choices and collocations are noticeably inaccurate or unnatural: “recommend you to serve,” “big seller,” “main founder,” and “attracts tourist from worldwide nations.” These can make parts of the letter less clear or less natural, even though the general meaning is recoverable. Aim for accurate, conventional phrasing and check word forms and spelling, including “India” and “tourists.” A more controlled range of natural collocations would strengthen the description and explanation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more developed sentence forms, including the relative clause in “which is very big seller” and the contrastive construction “not only serve kulcha but also give two sauces.” The message remains understandable, but there are some errors in sentence structure and grammatical forms. For example, “I am writing to recommend you to serve” needs a different verb pattern, while “Amritsar in the main founder of this dish” is missing a verb. Articles and agreement also need attention in “a very big seller” and “attracts tourist.” Practise checking each sentence for a complete clause, correct verb pattern, and singular or plural agreement. Greater accuracy in these areas would make your varied sentences more effective.
