Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Luis,

I hope you are doing well. My dear I have come to know that our student club is organising an event where popular foods from around the globe will be presented by all the students. This event is actually very famous due to its wide variety of food from around the globe.

I am planning to present Chicken Biryani at the event to represent my country. This dish is immensely popular even in European countries, so I hope students will enjoy it. The dish is very spicy and full of taste anad flavour. The dish is very popular throughout our country and it represents the real taste of our country.

The main reason to include this dish in the event is that, the people of European countries likes it very much. Moreover, foods served in European countries are usually not very spicy, so to have a different and spicy taste at the event would definitely create a positive impact on audience. It would be pleasure for me to be a part of the event and represent my country.

Yours sincerely,

Umar

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points: you offer to make Chicken Biryani, describe it as spicy and flavourful, and explain that it would provide a different taste from the food usually served in Europe. The purpose is clear, and the offer to represent your country is appropriate. However, the description is brief: readers are not told what the dish contains or how it is prepared. The reasons for including it also rely mainly on broad claims, such as its popularity in European countries and the lack of spicy food there. To strengthen the letter, add a concrete detail about the ingredients or preparation and explain more specifically what visitors would experience or learn from trying it.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: you introduce the event, make your offer, and then explain why the dish would suit it. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and linking phrases such as “Moreover” and “so” make the main reasoning easy to follow. Some connections are less smooth, however. The opening repeats “around the globe,” and “This event is actually very famous” does not clearly advance the purpose of the letter. The final paragraph also combines the reasons for inclusion with your closing offer. A more direct opening and a clearer separation between the dish’s description and its benefits would make the progression more natural and cohesive.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the topic, with relevant expressions such as “immensely popular,” “wide variety,” and “represent my country.” However, the range is somewhat repetitive: “popular,” “country,” and “event” recur, while “spicy” and “taste” carry much of the description. There are also noticeable word-choice, spelling, and collocation problems, including “full of taste anad flavour” and “create a positive impact on audience.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, but they limit precision and naturalness. Use more specific food vocabulary, such as ingredients or cooking methods, and check spelling and common phrase patterns when revising.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including a reason clause in “so to have a different and spicy taste … would definitely create a positive impact.” Most of the message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors are present. For example, “the people of European countries likes it” has a subject–verb agreement error, and “It would be pleasure” is missing an article. The sentence beginning “My dear I have come to know” also needs clearer punctuation and sentence structure. Review agreement, articles, and punctuation, and aim to make complex sentences more controlled. These corrections would improve accuracy without changing the clear meaning of your letter.
