Dear Luis,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Luis,
I am writing to offer my help with the international food event. I would be delighted to prepare Chole Bhature, a popular traditional dish from Punjab.
Chole Bahture is delicious North Indian meal that consists of spicy chickpeas with deep-fried bread. The chickpeas are cooked with onions, tomatoes and a variety of indian spices. The dish is usually served with pickless, onions and chutney.
I believe this dish should be included in the event because it represents indian culture and food traditions. Student from different country would have an opportunity to experience authentic indian flavors and learn more about punjabi cuisine. Furthermore, sharing traditional dishes can help students understand and appreciate one another's culture. I would be happy to prepare this dish and explain its cultural importance to others.
Thank you for organising this wodredful event. I hope you will consider my suggestion, and I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely,
Kiran

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 8.0
The letter covers all three requirements clearly: you offer to prepare Chole Bhature, explain that it consists of spicy chickpeas and fried bread, and give relevant reasons for including it, such as representing Indian traditions and encouraging cultural understanding. The offer to explain the dish’s cultural importance also supports your purpose well. These ideas are sufficiently developed and remain focused on the event. To make the response even more complete, you could add a practical detail about your contribution, such as how many people the dish could serve or what ingredients you would bring. Overall, the purpose and tone are appropriate for writing to the organiser.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.5
The information follows a clear sequence: you introduce your offer, describe the dish, explain its value, and close politely. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, while phrases such as “Furthermore” and “I would be happy” connect the reasons to your offer. The progression is easy to follow and the letter format is appropriate. Some links between ideas are quite straightforward, and the description and cultural justification could be connected more smoothly—for example, by explaining how the dish’s ingredients or serving customs reflect its regional background. A slightly more varied range of linking and referencing would make the cohesion feel more flexible and less reliant on simple transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “traditional dish,” “deep-fried bread,” “authentic … flavors,” and “cultural importance.” These choices communicate the food and its significance effectively, and the range is adequate for the letter. There are, however, several spelling and word-choice slips, including “Bahture,” “indian,” “pickless,” and “wodredful,” which reduce accuracy and polish. Some phrasing is also broad, such as “a variety of … spices” and “learn more about Punjabi cuisine.” Aim to check spelling carefully and choose more precise food-related expressions, such as naming a characteristic spice or describing the chickpeas as simmered in a spiced tomato-and-onion sauce.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
The letter includes a useful mix of simple and more developed sentence forms. For example, “I believe this dish should be included … because it represents Indian culture” expresses a clear reason, and the sentence beginning “Furthermore” adds another supporting idea. Some grammatical errors remain, though they do not prevent understanding. In “Chole Bahture is delicious North Indian meal,” the article “a” is missing; “Student from different country would have” needs plural forms and an article or determiner; and “one another’s culture” should refer to plural cultures in this context. Review articles, subject–noun agreement, and plural forms, then proofread punctuation and spacing to improve consistency.
