Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Luis,

I am glad to hear that our club is planning to organise a food festival which will include wide range of cuisines from around the world. This will let people to taste different varieties of food and enjoy a vibrant experience.

I have a suggestion to also make and include a sweet called "Motichur Ladoo" which is a very popular dish of Gujarat, India. This is our traditional sweet dish made during any Indian festivals also, it is believed that before starting something auspicious work, people have a bite of Ladoo, Because the main ingredient of this recipe includes sugar which is believed to be a good sign before starting the work as per Indian mentality.

However, I assume people of different culture will be visiting our event and they will be pleasure to taste our sweet baked dish. We can also make an arrangement to include a banner near the stole which will explain a brief details of the dish to help understand what this dish is made of and why is it a famous Indian dish.

I hope you will agree with my request to include the dish I mentioned. I will be waiting for your response.

Yours faithfully,

Yesha Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three points clearly: you offer to prepare Motichur Ladoo, describe it as a traditional Indian sweet, and explain its cultural significance and potential appeal to visitors. The explanation that it is eaten at festivals and before auspicious occasions gives the proposal relevant support, while the suggested banner would help guests understand the dish. Your purpose and request remain clear throughout. To make the ideas more fully developed, explain more specifically what the sweet is made from or how it is prepared, and connect its cultural meaning more directly to the event’s celebration of international food. The claim that visitors will enjoy it is plausible but somewhat general.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall structure: you introduce the event, present and explain your dish, then make a closing request. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and links such as “However” and “I hope” guide the reader through the message. The progression is generally easy to follow, but some connections are not quite logical: “However” introduces no clear contrast, and the sentence about the banner shifts from the dish’s appeal to event arrangements without a smooth link. The long explanation of the sweet’s cultural meaning also contains several ideas that would be clearer if separated. More precise transitions and clearer referencing would make the cohesion more flexible and natural.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

You use a suitable range of vocabulary for a friendly formal letter, including “traditional sweet dish,” “auspicious,” “vibrant experience,” and “cultural.” These choices help communicate the dish’s significance and the event’s purpose. There are also several inaccurate or unnatural expressions that limit precision, such as “wide range of cuisines,” “they will be pleasure to taste,” and “a brief details.” “Stole” is also not the intended word for a place where food is displayed. Aim for more natural collocations and check word forms and spelling; this will make your meaning sound more fluent without requiring more elaborate vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including a relative clause in “which is a very popular dish” and a longer explanation of the sweet’s cultural role. The main message remains understandable, but errors occur in several sentence patterns. For example, “will let people to taste” should be “will let people taste,” and “before starting something auspicious work” needs a different construction, such as “before starting an auspicious task.” The sentence beginning “Because the main ingredient…” is not properly attached to the preceding sentence, and “why is it a famous Indian dish” uses question word order inside an indirect clause. Review articles, verb patterns, clause boundaries, and punctuation to improve accuracy.
