Dear Luis,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Luis,
I hope you are doing well! I am delighted to hear that our International Students' club is celebrating popular food items from all around the world.
I would like to offer to make my country's famous dish named Shahi Paneer. It is very famous back in my country. People from all around the Asia continent adds this dish to their wedding and party menus.
Generally, this dish includes gravy and cheese cubes only. The gravy is prepared from tomatoes, onions and spices and herbs which taste little sour and tangery but is highly healthy in inature as tehy are not fried. Moreover, there is no extra cream added in it to make its gravy look thick. Further, cheese cubes addition make it easy and delicious to eat because they are soft and smushy.
I feel if it is included in the event menu, people will cherish their countrys' old memories when they lived there.
I hope you like my suggestion and will add this to the menu. Please let me know if agreed, I will prepare it accordingly to events' number of people.
Yours truly,
Preet

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three points clearly: you offer to prepare Shahi Paneer, explain that it is made with gravy and cheese cubes, and give a reason for including it—helping students remember their home countries. The description includes useful details about the ingredients and preparation, so the dish is easy to imagine. Your reason for its inclusion is relevant, but it is less developed than the description; explain more specifically how sharing this familiar dish would contribute to the event’s celebration of food from different cultures. The claim that people across Asia include it in wedding and party menus is broad and could be made more precise. Overall, the purpose and your offer remain clear throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear progression: you introduce the event, make your offer, describe the dish, explain its value, and close with a practical question. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “Further” guide the reader through the description. This coherent overall arrangement is effective. However, the sequence of connectors in the food paragraph feels somewhat mechanical, and the final reason for including the dish is brief compared with the detailed description. The reference in “if agreed” is also not fully clear: it would be smoother to say “if you agree.” To strengthen cohesion further, vary transitions and connect the dish’s features more directly to its cultural significance.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the letter, including food-related terms such as “gravy,” “spices,” “herbs,” and “cream,” as well as “cherish” to express the emotional value of the dish. These choices make the main ideas understandable. There are, however, several inaccurate or unnatural expressions that limit precision: “tangery,” “smushy,” and “inature” are problematic, while “famous dish named” and “cheese cubes addition” are awkward collocations. “Popular food items” also repeats the task’s wording rather than adding a more specific description. Aim for accurate, natural phrases such as “a well-known dish called,” “slightly tangy,” and “the addition of cheese cubes.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including a relative clause in “spices and herbs which taste…” and a conditional sentence beginning “if it is included.” The message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “People … adds” has a subject–verb agreement error; “which taste little sour” needs an article and a more suitable structure; and “cheese cubes addition make” has problems with both the noun phrase and verb agreement. The final sentence, “Please let me know if agreed,” is incomplete in its current form. Practise checking agreement, articles, and complete conditional clauses, while keeping the sentence structures you already attempt.
