Dear Luis,

Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Luis,

I hope you are doing well. Since our club is organizing a fair for celebrating famous food from different parts of the world. I would like to prepare a traditional Indian dish for this event.

As India is a diverse country, I am planning to make '' Shahi Paneer'' a famous north-Indian cusine. Some basic household ingredients are used to make it like onions, tomatos, spices, cashew nuts, cottage cheese (paneer), butter and cream. The rich creamy texture of this food is very soothing and can be enjoyed with both naan bread or rice.

I would like to utilize this opportunity to make the foreign citizens aware about Indian cuisine. After tasting this food, people can understand better about the core of Indian-food and their spices. Moreover, this can also clear their misconceptions about the hot spices used in our domestic kitchen.

I believe you will like this idea. I'm looking forward to hear from you.

Kind regards,

Suman

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

You address all three points clearly: you offer to prepare Shahi Paneer, describe its ingredients and creamy texture, and explain that it could introduce guests to Indian cuisine and challenge assumptions about its spices. The dish is presented as a relevant contribution, and the purpose of the letter remains clear. The explanation of why it belongs at the event is supported by two related benefits, although “people can understand better about the core of Indian-food” is broad and could be made more specific—for example, by explaining what makes the dish representative or appealing to a range of guests. This is a strong, complete response; more precise development of that rationale would make the ideas feel more fully supported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter follows a clear progression: you introduce your offer, describe the dish, explain its value to the event, and close politely. Paragraphing supports this sequence, and links such as “Moreover” help connect the reasons for including the dish. The reader can follow the message without difficulty. Some connections could be smoother, however: “Since our club is organizing…” is left as a dependent clause rather than being joined to the main offer, and the shift from describing the food to its cultural value is somewhat abrupt. Use complete sentence structures and a more explicit transition between these ideas to make the cohesion feel more consistently controlled.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

You use a suitable range of food and cultural vocabulary, including “traditional Indian dish,” “rich creamy texture,” “household ingredients,” and “misconceptions.” These choices communicate the topic effectively, and “Shahi Paneer” is appropriately identified as a regional dish. Some word choices and collocations are less natural or precise, such as “fair for celebrating,” “core of Indian-food,” and “foreign citizens.” There are also spelling errors in “cusine” and “tomatos,” which slightly reduce accuracy. Aim for more idiomatic phrasing, such as “food fair celebrating” and “introduce international guests to Indian cuisine,” and check spelling carefully. This would make your vocabulary more flexible and precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, including the explanation beginning “After tasting this food…” and the sentence linked with “Moreover.” Most of the message remains easy to understand. Some grammatical errors are present, though: “Since our club is organizing…” is a sentence fragment, “I’m looking forward to hear from you” needs the gerund form “hearing,” and “people can understand better about” has an incorrect grammatical pattern. The phrase “their spices” also creates unclear reference. Review dependent clauses, verb patterns after “look forward to,” and constructions such as “understand something better.” Greater accuracy in these areas would strengthen control while preserving your range.
