Dear Luis,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Luis,
I am writing to request you to add one of the special dishes of my nation in an event celebrating famous cuisines of different parts of world.
I am a member of International Students' club. I believe that if an Indian rice pudding is added in the list of foods, being prepared on the special event, this would be a wounderful idea. Because this is not only delicious but also healthy thing to eat. Additionally, it is popular in the all parts of India.
Rice pudding ingredients including rice, milk and in particular sugar. Besides this dry fruits can be added to enhance its taste which are almonds, wanuts, raisens, cashew and pistachews.
This dish has its own importance in my nation which is enjoyed eating on special occassions to show our happiness and love to each other in every culture. Moreover, whenever this food has been prepared on special occassion for decades providing energy, making people feel more enthusiatic and connected. Hence, it has traditional and cultural value in my country.
Overall, I would really appreciate if you consider to our nation's wounderful dish which I beliebe definitely would be liked by all the students.
Yours faithfully,
Manpreet Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The letter addresses all three requirements: you offer to contribute Indian rice pudding, describe its ingredients, and explain its cultural significance. The offer is clear in “I believe that if an Indian rice pudding is added,” while the list of rice, milk, sugar and dried fruits gives the reader a useful picture of the dish. Your explanation that it is eaten on special occasions and represents happiness and love also supports its inclusion. These ideas are relevant and extended, although some claims—such as it being healthy and popular throughout India—are asserted rather than explained. To strengthen the response further, make the offer more direct and add a practical detail, such as how much you could prepare or how it would be served.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: it opens with the purpose, describes the dish, explains its cultural value, and ends with a request for consideration. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and linking expressions such as “Additionally,” “Moreover,” and “Hence” show how ideas relate. This gives the response a coherent progression. However, some connections feel mechanical, and the sentence beginning “Because this is not only delicious” is detached from the preceding sentence. The ingredient list also interrupts the flow slightly. For a stronger, more flexible progression, connect related points within complete sentences and use references such as “this pudding” consistently to make links between paragraphs clearer.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use vocabulary relevant to food and culture, including “rice pudding,” “ingredients,” “dry fruits,” “special occasions,” and “traditional and cultural value.” This is enough to communicate the main ideas, but the range and control are limited by repeated general wording such as “dish,” “food,” and “special event.” Several spelling errors—“wounderful,” “wanuts,” “raisens,” “pistachews,” and “occassions”—are noticeable and reduce accuracy. Some combinations are also unnatural, for example “popular in the all parts of India” and “show our happiness and love to each other.” Build precision by learning common food collocations and checking spelling carefully; this will make the description sound more natural and assured.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response attempts both simple and more complex structures, including a conditional sentence (“if an Indian rice pudding is added”) and a relative clause (“which are almonds…”). The main message remains understandable, but complex constructions are not consistently controlled. For example, “Because this is not only delicious but also healthy thing to eat” is a fragment, and “I would really appreciate if you consider to our nation's…” has an incomplete grammatical pattern. There are also errors in articles and sentence construction, as in “in the all parts of India” and “Rice pudding ingredients including rice.” Aim to make each sentence complete, check article use, and practise patterns such as “appreciate it if you would consider…” before adding more complex clauses.
