Dear Luis,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Luis,
Hope you are doing well, I am writting this letter to discuss about an event to cherish popular food from around the world.
As this event is being organised by the student club, so being the member I would like to include a food from my country India. This dish is eaten almost by every Indian, but now it is well-like by everyone called "Biryani".
This dish is made with long grain basmati rice and meat. Althought, it can be made with any meat, but I will prefer to use chicken. In thid recipe we use long grain basmati rice to give an aromatic aroma and flavour. Their are many spices used to prepare this merinate chicken and cooked under low flame to observe all the flavours in chicken and rice. It is served with yogurt.
In my opinion, it should be in the menu because majority of the students wants to try Indian cuisine and this is among the most favourite food in my country.
I would be look forward to hearing from you.
Yours Sincerely
Shagun

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three points in the task: you offer to prepare biryani, describe its ingredients and preparation, and explain why it belongs at the event. The offer is clear in “I would like to include a food from my country,” and the description gives useful detail about basmati rice, chicken, spices and yogurt. Your reason—that students want to try Indian cuisine and biryani is a favourite in India—is relevant, though it is somewhat general and could be strengthened with a specific reason, such as its popularity at celebrations or its distinctive flavour. The letter is appropriately directed to Luis and maintains a suitable, friendly purpose throughout. To develop the response further, make the offer more explicit and add a practical detail, such as how many portions you could prepare.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall sequence: you introduce the event and your offer, describe the dish, give your reason for including it, and close politely. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and linking expressions such as “In my opinion” make the final point easy to follow. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent overall arrangement. However, some connections are mechanical or awkward: “As this event is being organised by the student club, so…” uses two linking forms where one would be clearer, and “Although… but…” creates a similar problem. The opening sentence also joins a greeting and a new clause with a comma. Use simpler, more accurate transitions and clearer sentence boundaries to make the progression smoother and more flexible.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “long grain basmati rice,” “spices,” “aromatic,” “flavour,” and “Indian cuisine.” These choices help explain the dish and show an attempt to use descriptive language. Some word-choice and spelling errors, however, reduce precision: “well-like” appears to mean “well-liked,” “merinate” should be “marinated,” and “observe all the flavours” is not a natural way to describe how the ingredients combine. “Aromatic aroma” is also repetitive. These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points, but more accurate collocations would make the description sound more natural. Review spelling carefully and choose verbs that fit the cooking process, such as “absorb” or “blend.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “a food from my country India” and a reason clause beginning “because.” The main message remains understandable, but errors in sentence construction and agreement occur across the letter. For example, “Hope you are doing well, I am…” joins two independent clauses with a comma; “the majority of the students wants” has a subject–verb agreement problem; and “I would be look forward” uses an incorrect verb pattern. The sentence beginning “Although” also combines incompatible linking structures. Aim to form complete sentences, check singular and plural subjects, and use “I look forward to hearing from you” for the closing. More accurate control of these patterns would improve clarity.
