Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Luis,
Recently I get to know that our club is going to organize and event for popular foods around the world. First of all I'm very glad that our club is going to organize so big event this time.
I like to request you to allow me to make a dish from my country. Hopefully you know that I'm from Pakistan and the most popular dish in Pakistan is "Biryani". Not only Pakistanis but also people from other countries love that dish.
It consists of chicken, rice and some spicy flavor and spices.
When serve in a plate to any individual, it's smells only make a person felt hungry. I think, it's Amongs the best dishes in the whole event and I assure you people's would love it.
I have tried it many time in many small event's and I'm very good in making it. My roommates also love Biryani of my hand, infact they insist me to make it Weekly or twice in a month. This dish not only represent Pakistani food, but also the culture of Pakistan and it's generosity. I hope you will agree with me and allow me to make and display this delicious food in this biggest event.
Your Thankful

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three points clearly: you offer to prepare biryani, describe its ingredients, and explain its appeal to the event. Your offer is explicit in “I like to request you to allow me to make a dish,” while the references to its popularity beyond Pakistan and its connection to Pakistani culture support its inclusion. You also add relevant evidence from your experience making it for small events and for your roommates. These details give the letter a clear purpose and a sustained, positive position. To make the explanation more fully developed, describe the dish’s distinctive qualities or explain more specifically how it would add variety to the international event, rather than relying mainly on broad claims that people will love it.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter follows a sensible overall order: you introduce the event, make your offer, describe biryani, and then explain why it belongs at the celebration. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these stages, and links such as “First of all,” “Not only…but also,” and “I hope” make the relationships between ideas understandable. However, some connections feel mechanical or unclear. For example, “When serve in a plate…” shifts abruptly from ingredients to presentation, and “I think, it's Amongs…” does not connect smoothly to the preceding description. The final paragraph also combines your experience, your roommates’ preferences, and the cultural significance of the dish in a long sequence. Use clearer sentence boundaries and more precise references to make the progression easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “popular,” “spices,” “represent,” and “culture,” and the reader can understand the main message. There are also attempts to express enthusiasm and cultural significance. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “spicy flavor and spices,” “it's smells,” and “Biryani of my hand.” Errors in spelling and word form, including “Amongs” and “event's,” also reduce control. Some expressions are repetitive, particularly the repeated claims that people love the dish. Build a more precise range for describing food and its appeal—for example, ingredients, aroma, flavour, and cultural importance—and check spelling and natural word combinations before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and more complex structures, including “Not only Pakistanis but also people from other countries love that dish” and the sentence explaining that the dish represents Pakistani culture. The overall meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in basic sentence patterns and in longer constructions. Examples include “Recently I get to know” instead of a correctly formed past or present-perfect structure, “When serve in a plate,” and “it's smells,” where the verb pattern and agreement are faulty. The long sentence beginning “My roommates also love…” also needs clearer clause boundaries. Practise accurate verb forms, subject–verb agreement, articles, and sentence punctuation, then reread each sentence to check that its subject and verb match.
