Dear Luis,

Student answer (Band 4.5)

Dear Luis,

I am very excited to tell you about organising an event to celebrate popular food from around the world.

In this event every individuals would make the famous food of their country. This will increase the bonding between students and have an opportunity to represent their country.

This would be the traditional dish which present's their culture and have opportunity to explain how often people make it and what it includes. In this why everyone have time to interact each other.

I think this activity should be included in this event because it helps individuals to come accross each other. As everyone has hectic schedule no one has time to interact each-other. Through this event everyone has opportunity to know about each other along with experiencing their cultural's food.

Yours sincerely,

ABC

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

The letter is related to the event and gives a reason for including a food activity: you say it could help students interact and learn about one another’s cultures. However, the central offer is missing: you do not name a dish from your country or clearly say that you will prepare it. The description is also generic—“the traditional dish” is not identified, and its ingredients or preparation are not explained. The response contains 123 words, so it is 27 words below the required minimum; the 11 words copied from the prompt are excluded. To address the task more fully, name a specific dish, offer to make it, describe its ingredients or how it is served, and connect its cultural significance to the event.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The ideas are grouped into paragraphs, and the response moves from introducing the event to discussing interaction and giving a reason for inclusion. This provides a basic structure. However, the progression is not always clear: the opening says you are excited about organising the event, rather than moving directly to your offer, and the second and third paragraphs repeat the idea of students interacting. Some links are awkward or unclear, particularly “In this why” and “As everyone has hectic schedule,” which make the relationship between ideas harder to follow. Use a clearer sequence—offer, dish description, then reason—and connect each point with precise linking phrases rather than repeating the same benefit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the general theme, including “traditional dish,” “represent their country,” “interact,” and “cultural food.” These choices show some range beyond very basic wording. However, several expressions are imprecise or unnatural, such as “increase the bonding,” “come accross each other,” and “experiencing their cultural’s food.” The repeated use of “opportunity” also limits variety. These choices do not prevent the reader from understanding the broad message, but they make the letter less natural and precise. Aim for common, accurate collocations, and use vocabulary specific to the dish—for example, its ingredients, flavour, or method of preparation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response includes simple statements as well as attempts to link ideas with clauses, for example, “As everyone has hectic schedule no one has time to interact each-other.” This shows some effort to vary sentence structure, and the main message is generally understandable. However, errors occur in basic sentence construction and agreement: “every individuals would make” should use a singular noun after “every,” while “the traditional dish which present’s their culture” has an incorrect verb form and unclear agreement. There are also missing articles and awkward clause structures, as in “has hectic schedule” and “have opportunity.” Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, articles, and relative clauses, then check punctuation around introductory clauses.
